First, thanks to everyone who responded to the last post with sympathies and suggestions. The support is appreciated. And the advice on the TV will be taken (see below).

Now some preliminary damage numbers. Note the "preliminary" in that statement. I only managed to get through half of my storage facility today. The other half will hopefully get finished tomorrow.

So these numbers are LOW. Expect them to rise.

Books:
36 hardcover books destroyed.
8 trade paperback books destroyed.
144 mass market paperback books destroyed. (This will go up after tomorrow. Way up.)

7 board games destroyed.

70 VCR movies destroyed.
VCR destroyed
Computer CPU destroyed.
ADvantix Camera destroyed.

Bookshelves destroyed.

Good news:

The chairs and table can be salvaged. I think the massive TV as well. I don't think it got submerged; only wet on one corner edge. I can always hope. Let's see . . . good news, good news, good news . . . I think that's it.

Well, that's being a little ungrateful. The good news is that I still have a place to live, don't have to boil water, and all of the stuff above is replaceable. Oh, and for those of you worried about my own stories/novels being destroyed, not worries there. I have them at the loft, so they were never threatened.

I still went to Dunkin Donuts and bought myself a large strawberry coolatta on the way home.

Commiserations. Even with the good news, this still totally sucks.

VCR and computer lost? What I posted about the TV should apply to those too. Unplugged, water damaged should be recoverable.

Sorry to hear about the books. Hopefully none of those will be too hard to replace.

If had just been water, perhaps. However this was MUD. I opened up the VCR door . . . and EVERYTHING inside was coated. And this isn't the usual mud. This is flood mud. It's very fine, sticks to everything, and even when you think you've washed it off, it's still there.

So I gave up on the VCR and computer (it was an old computer). However, I'm not willing to give up the TV yet.

ewww... you're probably right to ditch them. The grit would get into the motor in the vcr and it would eventually die. The same goes for the floppy drive and power supply in the computer.

This past week I've been watching the news, absolutely stunned by the amount of water you've been having in your neck of the woods. I feel really bad many of your possessions got wrecked, but I'm glad you're okay. Try not to let this get you down.

I'm so sorry to hear about the flooding of your storage facility. I'm thankful that you're okay where you're living, though. Don't let this get you down.
