Albacon--Day 1
Oct. 8th, 2005 09:11 amSigned in, got my nametag, checked out the location of important things like the rooms, the dealers rooms, the art. The first day was light on events, the most important being the Ice Cream Social. But before I attended that I went to a reading by Shane Tourtellotte. He writes short stories and is on one of the panels I'm moderating so I thought I'd stop by. Then hit the ice cream social. And no, I did not need a keeper. I met Thomas Atkinson, a fan who's attended cons for about 30 years from what I could gather. I ended up attending his panel after the social on "Fan Etiquette vs. Mundane Etiquette". It was interesting and fun, although I stayed mostly quiet in the back. I also learned from Thomas that program participants should have little ribbons attached to their badges and I didn't have one. It seems that they came in the manila envelopes you got when signing in . . . and no one gave me an envelope. Oh well. I'll check and see if there's a envelope for me this morning, since it also contains the name banner to be placed on the table for the panel. It may be that I signed up too late/at the last minute to have gotten such things.
Anyway, first day was a nice way to settle into the con and meet a few people. Today is the long day, but only one panel to moderate. We'll see how it goes.
