Non-Writing Stuff

First off, while writing yesterday, humming along, listening to music (wondering if the book would ever end), I see a sudden flash I glance up, but almost instantly a huge crack of thunder rumbled through the apartment.
That was the only warning. I scrambled down to my car, where my windows were rolled all the way down, and frantically rolled them up, then dashed into the house, rain already pounding down . . . and made it back inside just in time.
What followed was the most vicious storm I think I've ever seen. Lightning and thunder of course. But WIND! And RAIN! It was blowing so hard the front door of my apartment was totally soaked. And my front door sits WAY back from the overhand and is almost completely sheltered. Talk about horizontal rain! I've never seen the trees outside my balcony leaning that far over.
So I stood in the window and watched it for a while, lights flickering, and then went back to writing. Thankfully I have a laptop. This is the main reason I have a laptop actually, so that I can continue to write, at least for a while, even if the power goes out and it's astorming outside.
Now, step back a few more days, to Friday. My partner got tickets to a local jazz concert and the reception afterwards. So I got to see (and meet . . . here comes the namedropping) Chuck Mangione. And his band of course. Jazz is really my partner's thing though, so while the music was great, and the concert was fun, I can't really comment all that well on HOW good it was. Not with any expertise. But the audience was having a grand old time, so I assume that it was spectacular. I have to say, the food at the reception was excellent for the most part. There was a rice dish I didn't like (not enough flavor) and I didn't like the roast beef, but the chicken turnover were to die for, and there was some kind of southwesternish pinwheel finger-food thing that I couldn't get enough of.
So there has been life outside of writing. Now that the book is done, I've got to get serious about packing up and prepping for GASP! the new semester. Ugh. No classes to take anymore, the degree is in the bag, but now I have to teach. Four classes.
As my partner would say, "Quit bitching. Get a real job." Or something to that effect.
