Men Who Cook!!! Today!!!
Sep. 17th, 2009 01:20 pmOK, so I spent, like, 9+ hours yesterday cooking for the Men Who Cook event tonight, so SOMEONE in the area had better show up! *grin* If you haven't heard of it, the local Mental Health Association (MHAST) holds this event every year, asking local businessmen and "celebrities" to cook a sample-size snack for up to 300 people. The event raises money for the organization by charging for entry and with things like silent auctions and raffles and such at the event. The tickets are $35 before 5:30pm today, and then $45 at the door. There are supposed to be around 30 "guest" cooks at the event. It's also a chance for the local businessmen and "celebrities" to get some exposure in the community. I'll be there schilling my books, for example.
And this year I used the German release of "Die Assassine" as my excuse to cook something German-ish. So I've got Reinischer Sauerbraten on potato latkes with spicy gingerbread sauce to top it off. Hopefully I can get the latkes to get crunchy, since I cooked those yesterday. I've got a little oven to toast them in. They're what took so long to cook actually. I mean, the meat had to marinade for 3+ days and then roast for a few hours, but that doesn't require constant vigil like the latkes. And the gingerbread sauce is pretty easy.
So I'm blaming my exhaustion on the latkes.
Anyway, if you're in the Binghamton area tonight and want to come out and sample some of the local cuisine, as cooked by random men, stop on by! Details are at the link above. I'll be there with latkes on!
