Ugh. Long Week.
Sep. 12th, 2009 08:15 pmSo, I've been somewhat silent this week. That's because TOO MUCH WAS GOING ON!!! *grin* All good things, keeping me busy and whatnot, but not allowing me to blog, or even write much for that matter. And I need to get some writing done. (I did SOME, just not as much as I would have liked.) I'm hoping this week is better . . . but it's not looking good.
On Wednesday, I had to stay on campus most of the day for a department meeting. I got alot done during my "extended" office hours, but still . . . no writing. Similarly, on Friday I had to stay on campus because I was giving a seminar talk. Again, lots accomplished, but no writing. And the seminar talk only went OK. I felt like it needed to be smoother, although everyone reassured me that the talk was fine. It still wasn't as smooth as I like. I'm writing this off to the fact that I was being TOO organized and wrote the talk the week before. Normally I write the talk the week of, and then it's fresh in my mind when I actually go into the seminar room. This time, I think I wrote it too far out. Rereading the talk repeatedly before going to the room doesn't help, because you don't necessarily remember the connectives between the individual steps of the talk, and that's what wasn't as smooth as I'd like. Oh well. I need to fix that, since I'll likely give the same talk at a conference in October.
And then today, I was at a writing conference in Owego, the one that I told you all about earlier this week. (I think it was earlier this week.) That conference went rather well I thought, and I went to send a general thank you to the those that organized the event. It seemed to run very smoothly and the presenters were all interesting and engaging. Thanks!
But all of those things sucked up lots of time and when I wasn't running around getting ready for all of THAT I was working on the trial run of the dish that I'm preparing to serve at the Men Who Cook event that's happening this coming week on Thursday. I've decided to serve Reinischer Sauerbraten on Potato Latke with Spicy Gingerbread Sauce. The advantage of this dish is that all of the elements can be prepared ahead of time and simply heated up the day of the event. The down side is that it requires alot of steps to make. So I expect to be cooking more or less every night next week starting on Monday and then serving on Thursday. I'm cooking now actually, since it requires a cooked marinade. The meat will then be sliced and put in the marinade and left for at least 3 days before it gets cooked. I also need to play with the sauce itself, since the first batch I made came out a little too thick for what I want.
But all of that aside, plus teaching of course, I managed to get started on the new beginning of the book Shattering the Ley for my editor. I'm hoping to get much more of that done this week.
Oh, and the semester is going rather well so far. I'm pleasantly surprised by the students in the classes and what they've accomplished so far. Here's hoping the good grades continue. *fingers crossed*
