Ugh! I just spent far, far too much time revising. It wasn't intentional . . . it just sort of happened. But I'll start at the beginning.

I sent my revised chapters 1-6 to my editor on Wednesday night, late, since the due date was Thursday and I didn't figure I'd get anything revised that day. So on Thursday I get the response: I got the revisions. Good, I think. I'm ready for a slight break. I didn't want to freak about the revisions this weekend because I need to prep for Norwescon.

But then she ENDS the email with: I'll look for further revisions on Monday.

What!?! What further revisions!?!?! But then I realized I'd actually said in my email with the revisions that I planned on working a little more on them this weekend . . . and so I trapped myself.

Anyway, I sat down and started working on Chapter 7 revisions that Thursday . . . and got them finished. Nothing much to change in chapter 7. Friday I spent the day grading papers so I wouldn't have to worry about it this weekend. Plus I attended a signing that was a total bust. I only sold one of my own books. It was for a First Friday event, but the weather didn't cooperate. It was actively storming while I was sitting in the store, so of course no one came out for the events planned that evening. There were two other authors there and they suffered the same as I.

So today after the gym I sat down and said, "I will get chapter 8 done today." And I did. Nothing big to change there either (more things than in chapter 7 though). But instead of quitting after that, I opened up chapter 9. This one required much heavier revisions: a whole new scene added, some changes in character reactions (which take forever for me to change for some reason; much more difficult than tweaking a few words). For some reason, I just kept going and going and going. And now it's done. Whole new scene added (and it rocks if I do say so myself, lots of drama . . . and death). Character reactions changed. Another smaller scene added for setup of the bigger scene. And I feel really good about it all.

I'll have to reread it all tomorrow because new scenes tend to have lots of little cleaning-up issues (Is that how you spell that? Really?) and smoothing, but I might actually get to chapter 10 tomorrow. Depends on what the other half has planned for activities tomorrow. We'll see. But I'm feeling really good and on schedule, perhaps even ahead of schedule, so I can't complain.

But now my brain hurts and so I must quit. I need to do nothing for a little while. Haven't eaten yet today (except for a free sample from Wegman's and a few chips) so perhaps food is in order. Hmm . . .
