First of all, I'll be signing The Skewed Throne at Flight of Fantasy in Albany, NY at 7pm tonight. If you're in the area, stop on by!
And now the update for yesterday. Yesterday sucked. I intended to revise chapters 10 and 11 (not 12, it's 78 pages long, which will require it's own day; it's really two chapters but I didn't want to have 13 chapters in my book for various stupid reasons). But I also had errands to run, including getting my car inspected. So I started the errands and discovered that every place I went to to get the car inspected was booked solid. Since I'm heading up to Albany today (and possibly won't be going the actual speed limit), I thought having a valid inspection would be a good idea. So I hit one last place. They took it in immediately . . . and then of course discovered something wrong.
This is why I don't like the idea of state enforced inspections. All the car repair people have to do is say there's something "wrong" and that unless I get it fixed, they can't give me a valid sticker. So of course you have to let them fix it or drive illegally. But that's another entire rant on its own.
Anyway, I told them to fix it. It was supposed to take an hour. It took almost 2 and a half. So my entire afternoon was wasted. I got home just in time to head to the gym for my cycling class.
So, for revisions yesterday, I stayed up late and managed to get chapter 10 done. It was good because halfway through the chapter I actually said to myself, "Damn, this is good!" This rarely happens to me. Most of the time, I stress over how bad everything is during the revision process. But this was one of the key emotional transitions in the book, and I always find those more interesting than just plot. I only fixed a few things related to changes I'd made in previous chapters. I also decided NOT to add a scene I had on my "possible" list. Instead, I've moved that scene to . . . the beginning of book 3! I now have a beginning for book 3! It will work perfectly to introduce the main plot threads in that book, while "summarizing" what happened in book 2 that the reader needs to know if they haven't read book 2.
So, most of the things I had on my list to revise have been fixed. There's a few things in the last 2 chapters, but they're mainly shifting things and changing things to fit all of the previous changes. I should have the revisions done by Friday (chapter 11 tomorrow and chapter 12 on Friday).
The Cracked Throne
Oh, I decided I'd try to add what book I'm currently reading at the end of my posts, in case people are curious. I figure this will just depress me because I just don't have the time to read as much as I'd like, but I'll try it for a while and see how it goes:
Current book: Chasing Fire by Michelle M. Welch
