Interesting
Aug. 2nd, 2005 07:14 pmSo, I go check my email today and I have an email from my editor requesting that I add a few lines to chapter 9 of my book. I had my character get cut a little in the previous chapter and thought I'd made it known that it was a scratch and not worth mentioning after that scene, but she felt that I needed to add a line or two with one of the characters noticing and offering aid. So I did. What's interesting is that I didn't know that editors would do this. I figured it would be a copy edit thing, where this one little thing is buried in hundreds of other similar notes. But she wanted this one fix so that she could get the novel to production before she heads off to Scotland for Worldcon.
I wonder if this means that she's OK with the revisions and I'll be getting the other part of my advance sometime soon.
In other news, I believe I've finished chapter 11 today. I'm not 100% certain I like the ending all that well. I may cut the last scene. It doesn't feel as powerful as I'd like it to feel. The final revelation is . . . well, revealed and so everything should be clear to everyone, main character and reader alike. All threads should be tied off. All that's left is the colossal battle. Yah!!! I'm getting that vague feeling that this book sucks, like I always get at the end of a novel. I start second-guessing myself and doubting that the book is "powerful" enough, or "interesting" enough, or "worthy" or whatever. But since it's already sold I guess I'll leave that decision up to the editor. I still have the last chapter and one set of revisions to go through before she sees it though.
So, let's see, chapter 11 clocked in at 28 pages, so the current word count is:
The Cracked Throne
