X-Files: I Want To Believe

This is just a reaction from the movie, not a real review. Basically, if you used to watch the TV show, you should go see the movie. Yes, if you don't know anything about the X-Files, the movie will still make sense and perhaps be enjoyable. But if you've seen the show, there are many, many moments where you will smile or laugh or generally get a warm tingly feeling (not caused by ceiling fans) in your chest. It was good to revisit Mulder and Scully, good to see them again, and fun to play around in that universe. They went the way of the earlier episodes of the show, in the respect that they provide you with no real answer for what actually happened. They give you enough to believe that there was no paranormal activity going on . . . but also enough niggling little things that just don't fit that "real world" explanation to make you want to believe in the paranormal. There was actual character development between Mulder and Scully (although they had a tendency to beat you over the head with it by repeating it perhaps once too often). And they took a typical idea (serial killings) and pushed it just far enough that it tipped over the edge and became bizarre.
There were slow points in the movie, so it could have used some tightening in the editing department. And it's certainly not on the same scale as blockbuster "summer" movies like The Dark Knight or Ironman, but I don't regret going. In the end, it was fun to watch Mulder and Scully in action again and left me with an ache in my chest, not only for where it left them, but also for everywhere we've already been with them.
And if you stay for the end of the credits, there's a little scene at the end. Nothing much, but good for a smile.
Oh, and
libwitch? I already own the entire series on DVD. *grin*
