So, I'm halfway through the grading of the finals, and would be further along . . . if the students had taken the final yet. *grin* I give the third final tomorrow, and the last on Tuesday. So I'm all caught up at the moment. To celebrate, I finally got a chance to plant some of the plants I've bought over the last few weeks. So I've got the following planted on the roof: sweet corn, peas, tomatoes (two varieties so far), watermelon, cucumber, and spagetti squash. I also planted a bunch of flowers, including Dahlias. We'll see how they do.

In other news, [livejournal.com profile] mikandra has set up a new community called [livejournal.com profile] query_eagles where you can post queries or hooks and get feedback from other writers about whether it's doing what you think it's doing. Go! Check it out! Join and post a query before you send it out to that agent/editor!

And lastly, coming up this week are the following events related to my books:

Signing at the Binghamton University campus bookstore on May 14th! Stop by and see me at the bookstore from noon to 3pm. This means you! And:

Binghamton alumni Meet and Greet at Antonio's in Endicott from 5:30-?? on May 14th. I can't remember when it's supposed to end. There will be books available to buy at the event, and of course I'll sign them. Getting there early so the signature is legible may be a good idea, since Antonio's has a bar. *grin*

And after that, I'll be attending Balticon at the end of the month. More on that later, so stay tuned. There should be more posts now that school is winding down.

Thanks for advertising.

I've seen (and written!) so many queries that make absolutely NO sense whatsoever that I thought it would be a good idea to offer a place where people can run their concoctions past a few critical eyes to iron out the most obvious bloopers.

Anyone is welcome to join.

I stopped by and made comments on the first two posted. I may get a chance to look at some others later on.

And as a completely random aside, I finally got Skewed Throne in the mail today! Thoroughly enjoying it so far. The atmosphere is perfect - and helped right along by the dramatic, nay, epic music coming from my husband's video game. :D

Glad you're enjoying the book. Feel to free to tell all of your friends and force them to buy the book as well. *grin*

Hope you get some good query help at the new group!

I'm already well past Varis' first taste of butter, but I just wanted to let you know that Mari's death was very, very powerful. Just a small thing, I know - but it was extremely moving. I had to put the book down for a couple of minutes and process it.

Hmm . . . that's a good reaction to have from the reader. Well, not a GOOD reaction, considering, since it's not that pleasant, but it's a good reaction . . . well, you know what I mean. *grin* You reacted! In a powerful way! Writers love to hear that.

Well . . . unless the powerful reaction is to chuck the book across the room in disgust. We don't like that much.

*laughs* No, the reaction is not to chuck the book across the room in disgust. :D The reaction is to hurry up and read book two, in spite of jobs and doctor's appointments, and to reaaaaally enjoy the hints of Further Plot at the mention of "Adepts" and the "Talent."

Also, the hug between Erick and Varis made me tear up. (In a good way!)

Am about 1/4 of the way through book two! Darn real life, getting in the way of reading. :D

Say, maybe I'll see you at Balticon! I'll bring Cracked Throne and Vacant Throne for signing, if I can get Vacant Throne back from my son.

I'll be there and will likely have a signing or reading at some point. If not, then you can catch me after a panel or in the hall or at the bar . . .

hmmm. damn it . and i left all my books home. Not that they need to be signed, but...

But I do have regalia to pick up. Hmmm. Now if my phone call comes in soon....

Sorry, I didn't include the date: I'll be at the bookstore on May 14th, this Wednesday. So you still have time to bring them in and get them signed. Make sure you pass the word along about the signing to all of the rest of the library staff who might be interested. Or pressured into buying the books. *grin*

I noticed that when I went over to pick up my regalia! Hmph!

They do have a lovely display up.

It's something the alumni association organized. Basically, I'm showing up to talk to whoever stops by and wants to talk, while drinking I assume. And of course I'll be pushing the books while there. As far as I know, it's open to all alumni, so you can stop by if you want. I have in my note that it's only for an hour or so, so come on by and have a drink!
