Curiousity

I've got quite a few friends on this ole LJ and I enjoy reading everyone's posts. It's amazing how angsty I get when I'm at a con or something and I don't have the linkage to see LJ and I just KNOW I'm missing something important. But today, while distracting myself from grading by playing on the web, I realized that I've never asked you all how you found me, among other questions.

So, if you care to, leave a comment explaining how you found me (if you remember). And let me know what you like reading in my LJ, what's helpful and what you skim. This is just curiousity on my part, so those who don't feel like responding won't be dropped from the friends list or anything like that.

I found you via my friend Jenny... she was raving about your books and loaned me The Skewed Throne and then pointed out that you had an LJ so I could stalk you. In a friendly way, of course. :)

Really I like the glimpse LJ gives into the everyday lives of the people I like and admire. (Writers and otherwise).

Probably, although you may have gotten the LJ handle at Albacon.

I noticed you commenting on the journals of various people I knew/read, so decided it was worth checking you out. Also, for bonus excitement, I was intrigued because one of my early novel attempts revolved around a young woman who became a thief in a port city, got tied up with some magic, got involved in politics, had a relationship with a guard, etc., etc. The similarities were strong enough that I knew I had to know more. :)

I like reading a balanced LJ. If it's all writing tips, or all con reports, or all whatever, it's boring. You mix it up nicely, so I'd just say "keep on keeping on."

I found you via Novel in 90 this past summer. I like reading the writing tips, especially the ones that are more rambling, the ones where you're more trying to work something out as you go. I don't believe I skim anything... then again, I have lots of times when I'm reading my flist to procrastinate. So skimming is counterproductive :P

Hi Joshua!

I was the Programming Director NWC 23-28 and invited you to the con. I came on LJ to immerse myself in the writer's community, sort of get a feel for it from those that are not so wet behind the ears as I'm learning the craft. You posted something writerly and here I am.

What's helpful? Anything about how YOU write, writing habits, tips and techniques, contracts and the business of writing, stories about editors and publishers, writing experiences, and all that jazz.

You found me through a mutual acquaintance/friend (friend on my part, I'm unsure how well you know him). I figured that I'd friend you as well, and if either of us decided that it wasn't worth it, unfriending is simple.

So I enjoyed reading your journal, and then I was in a bookstore trying to find something to read, and found Cracked Throne. And now my husband is desperately hoping that the copy of Skewed Throne we ordered is in tonight ::glee::

So...you're an interesting and likeable person, and you write interesting books, and I'm happy. I don't know what you're getting out of the deal, aside from royalties.

You found my blog when you were doing a search because somebody asked me if I was related to you because of our shared last name. (I had somebody tell me that all Palmatiers in North America do share a common ancestor. I wish he would have emailed his genealogy list but I haven't heard from him since.) I've enjoyed reading about your success and your musings on writing-related issues.

By the way, I meant to comment the other day. Really think about getting rid of the dial-up connection as soon as you can swing it. It will make your time online so much easier. Also, websites and their content keep getting so increasingly heavy in terms of content info that I'm guessing that it will become also increasingly difficult to load pages and do other stuff reasonably quickly online.

I'd love to give up the dial-up and have looked into other options already. We have DSL in the apartment, but only one connection, so my partner usually gets that.

How did I find you? No idea! My brain refuses to grant me access to that portion of my memory. Most likely through another author whose blog I read.

I don't skim. When I'm short on time I tend to open your entries in another tab to read later, especially when they are thoughts or remarks or helpful advice on writing.

Hmm . . . I think I most likely found you when someone said, "And JP's got a nifty blog about _____ today," and, since I'm a writer, I wandered on over and stayed. And I did read your first book maybe a year ago after I found your blog. I like your LJ because it's thoughtful and entertaining, and I do admit that the posts I skim are likely the writing-related posts, not because they're not good or don't have useful info, but I think because I'm at a point where I've taken in so much how to write info in the past three years or so that I'm starting to ignore it.

You do reach that point where things just aren't helpful anymore because you've found your niche and how you work. I hit that with the OWW and just posting there for help. It's a good place to be!

Weeeell...

Way back in my undergrad years, about 4 years ago now, I found an autographed copy of "Skewed Throne" in the campus bookstore and picked it up since the synopsis summary thingy looked interesting. After reading it and loving it, I happened to mention it to fireun, as she usually sends me all kinds of nifty suggestions. Of course, she was already aware of the literary awesomeness, and she kept me updated on when the other two were due out. I think I finally found your LJ when she did some pimping and stuff and I wandered over.

I like hearing your updates on the new book and your advice for authors. The author introductions are always a good read, too. I really like hearing what "normal" is for you guys besides just what we can see in your writings. The pics from Friday nights are great, too!

On a random note, I owe you a big thank you for convincing The Demon that he needs to get back to his writings! I've been at him for awhile, but somehow it means more coming from you.

Both fireun and the Demon need to write and submit more. We're working on them, trust me. *grin*

I think we read/know/comment at some of the same places here on lj, I know I've seen your name before a number of times. I haven't really read any of your lj yet, being new and all, but I'm looking forward to future posts!
