Frenzy of Greed

Merry Christmas! This year, it was just me and my mom for Christmas. One brother had to go to his new wife's family Christmas events, and the other brother lives in Seattle and just managed to get power back on. They went without electricity for 7 days. Eee.
In any case, we have done the frenzied ripping open of gifts and here's my haul: new CDs and DVDs that will NOT be put in storage under any circumstances; new DVD player/recorder to make up for some of the electronics that I lost in the theft; Amazing Race DVD board game that looks interesting although there isn't much of an explanation on how it works on the box; assorted towels, candy, mugs, etc.
Best part of the holiday so far has been my mom opening up her new cell phone. She vowed she'd never get one because she couldn't hear well with them, she didn't want to be in constant contact with people, etc. So I was worried. But she used my cell phone a few days ago and could hear fine on it, and I got her the same model. Also, she has been having some serious bouts of vertigo lately and I felt that she needed to have something she could call me or my brother on if she had an attack and couldn't see well enough to drive in the future. She seemed pleased with it. We've already got a ringtone for her and everything. She was also pleased with the antique bookends I got her. One set's brass with ships on it (heavy as sh**) and the other is cast iron . . . with ships on it. They had a set with pirates on them . . . but I'm going to buy them for myself. Once again, my mom's haul was bigger than anyone else . . . but that's as it should be.
We don't know if we've won anything on the lotto tickets yet. We haven't scratched any of them.
Right now, I'm catching up on LJ and email since I haven't been online for 3 days, and she's getting dinner started. We only eat once on Christmas day . . . but it's more or less one constant meal that lasts for 7 hours. Ham and squash and cookies and yams and olives and more cookies and bread (rolls) and Hickory Farms beefstick and cookies and pineapple glaze and mashed potatoes and cookies and artichokes and cookies. Sense a theme? The cookies are homemade. I spent most of Saturday baking and we ended up with whoopie pies, sugar cookies (which turned out GREAT), peanut butter blossoms, and peanutbutter-jelly cookies. All completely from scratch.
trysolora will completely understand this I'm sure. 4 batches in one day? But here's the thing: I wasn't stressed out or tired at all. Baking is a total stress reliever for me. It's what I do when I'm nervous or excited and freaking out. I baked so many cookies when I sold the books that my partner didn't know what to do with them.
I need to bake again once the new year hits and send some to my editor and agent. Publishing people like baked goods, right? *grin*
Umm . . . that's about it. For now. No writing has commenced and probably won't until after I get back home tomorrow. I did get my Arisia schedule and will post that later.
Again, Merry Christmas for all of those celebrating! I believe there are cookies waiting for me to arrive and begin the slaughter.
