I promised [livejournal.com profile] pbray I'd title my next LJ entry with that. *grin*

Today, I managed to really and truly finish chapter 8. It only added another page to the word counting, so I won't bother updating that.

What was surprising is that a character I was not expecting to die . . . died. This came as a total shock to me, and completely alters what i thought the beginning of chapter 9 was. It doesn't change the content of chapter 9 at all, just the tone of the first part. I'm not sure what ramifications the death might have for the rest of the book. But I know that the unexpected death is right because it feels totally and completely right.

No real point here. Just that even when you think you know what's happening in your own head . . . you don't.

They're what make writing fun, in the end.

I just have this image of you having an arguement with your hands, and they won't stop writing the words. No, No, that character is not suppose to die! Dammit! Its committed to paper, and I can't stop it!

Then agian, its a Friday and I am really really tired.

The trick is to not react to what you're writing until after your done with the writing session. Aside from an initial shock when I realized she was going to die (when she got overwhelmed during the battle), I shut my brain off and just let the scene happen. THEN I reacted.

Good advice. I'll have to keep that in mind. Thanks!

It drives my husband nuts when I tell him a character did something unexpected. He'll say "But YOU made them do it..."

But we DON'T make them do it! They do it to themselves. I swear!

My partner doesn't say anything outright, but he teases me after I've said something like this.

I mean, yeah, it may all come out of our heads (Oh dear, exploding brains again,) but the best parts, at least for me, are the ones I DON'T plan.

Um, as long as the character didn't die of exploding brains....

No, no, she dies of exploded Trish brains. There's a difference.
