So today I managed to finish Chapter 8 . . . sort of. It was a battle scene, at sea, with lots of ships, so I figured it would take me forever to write it just trying to keep track of everyone. And of course there's some character change in the middle of all the fighting, because why else would you have a battle scene? But I started early this morning, broke for lunch about where I expected, then after lunch just kept writing and writing and writing. I was writing when the partner got home from work (usually I've stopped a half hour before that or more) and wrote all the way up until I absolutely HAD to leave for the gym. At that point, I'd gotten past all the real action in the fight, and the character transformation, and so even though the chapter isn't officially "over" . . . it's done. I'll reread and polish it up tomorrow . . . and finish it off of course.

Also tomorrow: I have to buy a black suit. It's for my brother's wedding, which is what's keeping me from attending Worldcon. I also need to find a wedding gift. I figure that will suck up my afternoon.

Here's the wordage. Can't think of anything I really learned while writing today except that long hours in front of the laptop make me dizzy. Or perhaps it was the spinning class at the gym. Off to scrounge for food.

Heh. My brother got married the weekend of World Fantasy, the year it was in Madison and I actually could have gone. Brothers can be so inconsiderate, can't they?

And congrats on passing the halfway point, by the way!

Hey! Halfway! Only another fifty . . . thousand . . . words . . . left to go. Hmmm. *grin*

It is good. I usually get through the last half much faster than the first. And it feels like that's going to happen on this one as well, since I already have chapter 9 plotted in my head.

You're trucking right along on yours, too. Or is that trolling right along?

No, no, no. The pages are half full. Just keep telling yourself that. Not half blank. Half full!

And I know what you mean. For me, a lot of the beginning is fumbling around, trying to establish setting and the story and get everything into position. The latter part is just letting all hell break loose, plus a few nifty battle scenes. Much more fun :-)
