Taxes--I hate them.

Well, one of my main goals while on spring break was to complete my taxes. Which I have now done. It was a pain in the ass. I'm sure this isn't a new feeling, but last year ALOT of things changed for me, and all in ways that made filling out tax forms more complicated. I sold 3 books, so suddenly the writing career was . . . well, a career. And so I had to learn all of the things that writers have to do to fill out taxes. It wasn't that bad, but in the end I owe. I owe, I owe, I owe. Due to write-offs for writing expenses, I don't owe as much as I would have, but still I owe.

Which means of course I won't be filing until April. *grin*

The most complicated things was the state taxes. I'm a resident of New York, but I worked half the year in Pennsylvania, and spent a week working on Colorado. So I had to fill out 3 state tax forms. Ugh. The Colorado form was LONG, but easy and I got a small refund from them. The PA state form was short but had too many spaces/questions in it I left blank because they didn't apply (but I still had to read through them all to see if they did apply). I also got 4 cents back from them (which I donated to some fund). Then I got totally slaughtered by the NY state taxes.

Did I mention I owe taxes?

I had TurboTax to help with the federal and NY state tax forms. But you only get one state form free from them, so had to do the other states online or by mail. This was the first year I used such a program, and it worked out well (unless I get audited and then I'll update the journal and bitch and moan).

Let's see . . . in other news, I played Munchkin with pbray (AKA "Matt") and jennifer_dunne last night. Matt won. Matt has won the last 3 games of Munchkin. So Jennifer and I agreed we needed to switch games. So we played Ticket to Ride. The first game I managed to win, even though I didn't make all of my destinations, mainly because I used long routes to get everywhere. The second game Matt and I were totally stomped by the Monster. All good games.

And no where did Jennifer and I get any planning in for Lunacon, coming up next weekend. Oh well. I'm sure it will all work out in the end. *grin*

You know, I also thought I owed. And then my HR Block rep realized that she entered the book earnings incorrectly. Ended up with a refund. Sort of sad. I wish I could earn enough to actually owe :P

We did plenty of planning. We know it's in New Jersey. We know we're taking my car instead of yours. And we know we're leaving Friday.

The rest are all fiddly details we can address as becomes necessary.
