I don't really subscribe to the New Year Resolution thing. I mean, I have goals for the new year that I intend to follow through on. Things like finishing the revisions on my current project, finishing the third book in the Well series, making certain my new books become international bestsellers . . . you know, the usual. But those aren't really resolutions. It almost seems that resolutions are things you vow to do although you really intend to break and/or violate that vow immediately. Rather than do that though, I thought I'd rephrase my resolutions so that I CAN follow through, even if it's not really in the general spirit of resolutions to begin with. And I encourage you all to follow through with this as well! We should rise up together and change the way resolutions are made! I call it OCCUPY NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS! Here are two examples:

1. I vow that my jeans will be loose by the end of the year! (Even if that means I need to buy jeans two sizes larger than those I'm currently wearing.)

2. I vow to read three books for every one book I buy so that my horrendous TBR pile decreases this year! (DAW books are exempt from this, since I need them in order to do the DAW Books blog [livejournal.com profile] dawbooks. Also, I'm allowed to count graphic novels as "books," as well as Star Trek books even though they're typically half the size of regular books [at least the older ones] and Janet Evanovich books even though they're even smaller than Star Trek books. Stephen King books are exempt as well, because . . . well, because it's Stephen King and he's been putting out tons of books lately. But I guess I can count his books as well, since most of the books I want to buy are DAW books anyway, and they're already exempt. So, OK, I'll count Stephen King books.)

What about you guys? What are your "resolutions"? How can you rephrase them so that they'll be easy to complete, and thus become part of OCCUPY NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS?

Your second resolution sounds somewhat like mine. I'm not that ambitious, though--my hope is just to kill between 50 and 75 items in my TBR pile. I have sixty pages left in book #1. :)

Okay, I admit, between things happening in our different lives, I have not seen you in two years. However, I can't believe you grew 20 pounds in that time. I have lost over 50 pounds since we last saw each other. I do not, however, recommend that you use my weight lost plan.

On the reading, I agree as always.

My resolutions? Get back to writing, and stay as healthy as I can!

I don't typically make resolutions for New Year's because I was born in August, so January kinda seems like a silly time to start my new "year." Maybe I'm just weird, though. Things are also really up in the air this year and I feel crappy when I don't make my goals, so I'm not doing anything formal. However, I would "really like" to have at least one novel ready to submit to agents by the end of the year.
