I finished Diana Rowland's My Life as a White Trash Zombie. An excellent book, with a great premise, great worldbuilding, and best of all, a great main character that I wanted to read about and root for. Check it out at the DAW Books blog ([livejournal.com profile] dawbooks), and then go out and buy the book!

I posted about ... interesting covers on my blog a while back and this cover came up. All my cozy readers, HANDS DOWN hated it. :>) Some of the UF readers were intrigued, some not.

Overall, discussions on it were far more accepting than I was. I hate that cover. I would not buy that book EVER based on the cover alone.

:>)

I've heard the book is good though.

And see, I *love* the cover. Absolutely adore it.

I'm not a fan of the cover in terms of my own personal aesthetics (I was wary of reading the book as well, since I don't like gruesomeness for the sake of gruesomeness and feared it would be too gory for me), BUT I have to say the cover captures the main character and the book perfectly. Since the cover is supposed to be a visual representation of the book, it succeeds on almost every level.

That pretty much mirrors the discussion. :>)

Here here! I thought the cover made a great juxtaposition to what the story said it was about. Given the grimness of some of the subject matter it was kind of nice to have a silly fluffy unicorns-and-rainbows...and-blood-on-her-chin weirdness. :D

Using my position in our SF Book Club, our October books are World War Z by Brooks, and My life as a White Trash Zombie...compare and contrast if you read both. We normally only chose one book, but I felt that we needed some humor in the selection.

I HATE the cover, and love the author, and I would have passed on the book except I had read a review that rocked.
