So what shenanigans did all of you guys get up to last night? My Halloween was rather boring, but in good news, the street (and bar) seemed rather quiet last night as well, which is unusual. We usually wake up to serious damage and fears that our cars have been pumpkined or egged or something. (Come to think of it, I haven't glanced out the front windows yet . . .)

In any case, send all unused candy to my house, please, thank you!

ALL our candy is unused! Not a single Yrick-or-Treater. ;(

I do not like Halloween much (which is probably odd for a writer who has written more than a few ghost stories...)

Last year Halloween was on Friday night. We had to shut down the candy-giveaway at 8:30--we had a handful of candy left and were afraid a large crowd would arrive. Easily a 100 people.

This year, I bought more candy (granted I bought the cheaper kinds--did anyone else have a heart attack at the price of snickers bars??? Are they crazy???)

We had MAYBE 30 people. ARGH.

Tootsie roll anyone?

The number of trick-or-treaters is down a bit from last year, amazingly enough. We typically get around 200, but we probably had about 150 this go around.

Our kids still managed a huge haul. Even after picking through all of the peanut candy there's still going to be way too much for them to eat.

I'm kind of dreading the sugar rush of the next few weeks....

I do not get trick-or-treaters in my apartment complex, so I went to a friend's Halloween party in my Shinobi Priestess costume. If you're wondering, the outfit is worn by Kikyo in the anime Inu Yahsa. I saw it and then did some research. A historical costume that I can use for cosplay is made of win.

We didn't trick or treat, or buy candy or anything for Halloween. We just sorta... hid at home.

So, no candy, no nothing.

Save staying up way too late trying to write NaNo. Heh.

Despite the fact that I live in an apartment with tons of kids in the area, no tricksters at all. Haven't seen any in years, in fact. :-(

Typical Saturday night was had instead: Getting my geek on with some friends at our weekly-ish D&D game.

Very slow here in Spokane as well. At least it was at our place. We had bought a variety of candy and as it seemed to run out fast last year, I rather strictly rationed it at first. But then as the intervals between TRICK OR TREATERS grew longer, I increased what I gave to them. A couple of times the gap between doorbell rings was enough that I tended to fall asleep on the couch. When it did ring again, I had to remind myself what day it was.

Now it looks as if we are stuck with a lot of left over sugar to dispose of in some way!

I actually planned rather well this year. We had a significant drop last year, and I had tons left over. This year, I planned for 50+ and got 48, so I was in good shape.

I helped run a Crown Tournament won by my neighbor down the street. He's now Prince, and the woman across the street is his Princess.

I worked all night. :P

The unused M&Ms, however, are MINE (precious). Here, have some Snickers, though.

(It also just occurred to me how wrong one could take the phrase 'unused candy.' *cough* I may not be awake yet...)

We did ritual out on our porch, in between rainstorms. The rest of the time I was playing Spore, and writing for Nano. Yeah, I have no idea why my husband doesn't think I'm boring!

I went souling with a few friends and was extremely happy I organized it correctly this year, as opposed to last year. The way I do it, souling becomes caroling, but for Halloween, with Halloween/All Hallows/Samhain themed songs.

It was quite awesome, and the reaction of people when you come up to their door and say "hi, we're going souling, which is like caroling, but for Halloween, would you like us to sing you a song?" varies quite a bit. There are a number of people who say no thank you, but most nod uncertainly or have super enthusiastic "cool! weird!" replies. Then if it seems they really liked it, we offer an encore. (We have four songs that we rotate.)

And then most people offer us candy, which of course was not the point at all.

But it would be so rude to refuse what is offered, right ;-)?

Thanks for asking. The celebration started with Vampire Tales at Symphony Space in Manhattan on Wednesday. I got to go on stage for the contume contest. Didn't win. Next time I go onstage there I hope it will be to do a reading. Picture is at facebook.com/cmoleti.

Friday night: Halloween Party at my daughter's school. Good DJ. Did a duet with him of Sweet Caroline. Daughter very embarrassed.

Saturday: trick or treating with my 7 yr old in three shifts. Adult lunch with family and friends while she was at a party. After dark, we took a ghost tour of Fort Totten by flashlight. Campy but quite fun.

Ate candy for a midnight snack.

Given the fact that I usually start celebrating Halloween around the 17th of the month (or closest weekend to that), and the BIG party was on the 24th, my 31st was quieter, wetter, and a bit bittersweet. PA Renaissance Faire added Halloween weekend to this year's season, and the 31st was the last day I could go this year. As a season pass holder, it was a sad day. LOL. And since we got rained on so hard that the finale had to be moved from the Globe stage to the Swashbuckler stage and Sir Thomas Howard got out of being beheaded yet again, we got our soggy butts home and watched movies instead. I didn't see any costumes on 2nd St, though, which surprised me.

They did have a zombie walk on the 24th, though, which we kicked ourselves for only finding out about that same day. Tsk. Next year, though. With pictures!

No candy, though. A lot of cake at work.
