So, I've arrived safely in Kansas City, MO, with a completely and utterly safe and uneventful flight, plus bus-catch, and hotel check-in. It all ran so smoothly that . . . I'm now bored. I got here WAY too early this year. After lunch, I spent the day cruising around downtown KC looking at the restaurant potential (even though we get fed every night here except one). The real fun begins tomorrow, when the torturing of the students grading of the AP Calculus exams begins, bright and early, at 8am.

I've vowed that I will eat less and exercise more this year than last at this event. So far, that hasn't happened. But it's early yet.

I must have missed something. Why are you in Kansas City, and where are you staying?

Best,
Robin

I'm staying at the Westin in downtown KC on the Missouri side. The Westin near the conference center. I stopped by the B&N in the plaza near here and signed some copies of my books. But I'm mainly here to grade the AP Calc exams with hundreds of other math teachers and professors.

Let's see . . . "No Thanks", "TTR" (of course), and "Ivanhoe", so far.

Ivanhoe was good. Sort of like Loot: a "weapon" was chosen and you battle over that weapon with your cards, steadily increasing the amount of that weapon you have in play before you, until everyone else gives up and you win (or you give up and they win). Then you get a colored chip for that weapon and chose another weapon. Once someone has 4 differently colored chips, they win.

I will definitely be buying "Race for the Galaxy" though. It can't be summarized in a few words, but once you learn how to play (it's complicated) it's fun.

Yes! I played that at the gaming convention here... very good game.

Cool, if my wife ever isn't teaching in the summer she may be able to meet you (finally). They keep trying to recruit her for the AP Biology exams and ACT (I think that's the one where they added the writing component) grading.
