And again, it's official . . .
Jul. 9th, 2005 02:58 pmChapter 8 is indeed done. I reread it today, did some line-by-line revisions, and decided that yes, it feels complete and I'm happy ending it here. I ended up adding an additional page somehow (it really felt like I was shrinking it, not expanding it during the edits), so a new word count:
The Cracked Throne
I also "started" chapter 9. Well . . . the end of chapter 8 just screamed that the first line of chapter 9 be:
"Well that's not true for all of the other warehouses!"
So I set up the first page of chapter 9 and added that line. I'll take a break on this until Monday. Hopefully the additional chapter in the book won't screw up the schedule for the summer too much. I have a feeling I might end up needing more than just one additional chapter, looking at what I have planned out for the rest of the book. 100,000 words suddenly doesn't seem like enough, even though my initial reaction upon signing the contract was how the hell am I going to come up with that many words? The first book was originally only 85,000 words. That increased to 92,000 after revisions suggested by the editor though.
Oh well. It will all work out in the end. If I have to go back and cut some things per the editor's request, then I find something to cut. For now, I just need to worry about getting it done.
