LaTex anyone?

I need to be able to edit/alter, compile, and then view certain documents coded in LaTex from home. Previously, I'd use a free download of some program like MikTex, however I just tried to download that and there's some kind of error. So, does anyone out there know of another free download software package like MikTex that they'd recommend I use?
