It's been a little while since I updated this sucker. Or at least it feels that way. So here's the news:

Friday I went to see Pirates of the Carribean instead of writing. That's right. Somehow the entire day ended up revolving around the movie, since I went to a matinee at 11:45am in hopes that the theater would be relatively quiet. HA! It was packed. Only 30 seats left when I got there. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie though. Not as good as the first and I felt it could have been more tightly written and edited. There was some unnecessary repetition, as if they didn't trust the audience to remember certain elements of the plot, so repeated them just in case, and the plot itself just felt . . . loose. Still a thrilling ride and I'd totally go see it at the theater if I were you. I'm sure some people are going to flip over the ending, but I thought it was perfect and I left the theater with my heart pounding and an extremely strong desire to see the third movie RIGHT NOW!! Which of course can't happen. *sigh* But as a writer, who desperately wants people to desperately want to buy the next book immediately after finishing the first one, I'd call the movie a success.

While at the theater, I saw a few trailers that got me all excited too. The first was to Lade in the Water, from M. Night Shyamalan. This movie looks so freakin creepy, much moreso than The Village (whose plot, BTW, I'd figured out completely before I even stepped into the theater). I have no clue what Lady is about, which is good. I like it that way. I'm definitely going to see it, although I've already been told by my partner and a friend of his that it's way to creepy looking for them to go see. Meanwhile, I'm dancing on my toes in impatience. Those were the two must see movies of the summer for me: Pirates and Lady.

The other trailer was for . . . Transformers! I was raised on the original Transformers toys. Literally. I remember daily begging to get more of them, and we still have all of the ones that we got at the time. I'm hoping this movie is only the original characters, and that they didn't totally screw it up. But that doesn't come out until next summer (7-4-7 if I remember right), so I've got a long wait on that one.

Anyway, that was Friday. Fun, fun, fun. Saturday my partner had to work (due to flood relief efforts; he works for the state), which left me to . . . clean. Blech! He usually cleans, mainly because when I do it, it isn't good enough and he usually ends up doing it over again. However, he felt I could clean sufficiently this past weekend, so I did. He worked again on Sunday, so I decided to write then. It was bizarre. I kept thinking it was Monday because we essentially followed our weekday schedule.

In any case, there were games this weekend (on Friday), and I got pleasantly plastered (on Saturday and one other day that I can't remember), and some other things happened that were minor and not worth reporting here. And then today . . . I wrote. Back to the usual schedule. Here's the writing update as of now:

The Vacant Throne

Not much to comment on except: Why the hell do characters not do what you expect them to do? I had the last scene today all planned out--this character would do this, and that would happen--but when I got there, the character didn't cooperate and didn't do what I expected and so now that plot thread isn't as far along as it should be and so what the hell am I supposed to do now!! Also, I'm having doubts about something I set up. Would this character actually do this? Or rather, the character would definitely do this, but would the other characters actually ALLOW them to do it? If they force her not to, then that part of the story becomes boring as a box of rocks, so . . . We'll see.

And finally, I worked mathematics into the story today. Very basic mathematics, but it did give me my favorite line of the day, from Varis:

"It sounded suspiciously like mathematics."

Out of context, it doesn't sound half as funny. In context . . . it makes me smile.
