Ok, so my taxes are done. E-filed and accepted and signature forms signed and stamped and ready to mail. I owed, but it didn't kill me.

In other news, I'm off to Norwescon tomorrow. Here's my schedule . . . and yes, I realize that I am busy on Friday. *grin*

FRIDAY

10am Getting That Novel Finished me, Kat Richardson, CJ Cherryh

Where do you find the discipline, persistence, and/or insanity to spend all those hours in front of a keyboard and get that damn novel done? Come listen to how some authors did and share your own ideas. Psychiatrists will not be admitted.

11am DAW Books Traveling Show Betsy Wolheim, Sheila Gilbert

Come and see what is new at DAW Books! I'm not really on this panel, but I'll be there for support.

1pm Order From Chaos: Building Fantasy Societies Renee Sturn, Chris Konker, me, Irene Radford, Dameon Willich

No matter where you put your fantasy, you need a world and people for it. Let's walk through some of the elements needed to make a fantasy world "real." From politics and religion, social orders and job market . . . a real world has them and so will a fantasy.

2pm Whose Story Is It, Anyway? Mike Shepherd Moscoe, Greg Cox, me

Now that you've learned to use viewpoint properly, which of your characters get to be viewpoint folks? What do you owe them? A cautionary approach to choosing and respecting points of view.

3pm What Should Good Fantasy Do? me, Kathy Watts

Should it inspire, teach, intimidate, educate? How about divert, relax, amuse, or awaken? The panelists will choose their own verbs--and in the process, explain how good fantasy differs from not-so-good fantasy.

6pm Achilles Needs a Heel!--The Problem With Power Margaret H. Bonham, Rene Stern, me

Would Achilles have been interesting if he'd been truly invulnerable, or, instead of dying a tragic hero, would he still have been acting like a psychopathic adolescent thirty years after the Trojan War ended? Can power without vulnerabilities make an interesting story? (Has anyone succeeded?) What sorts of vulnerabilities are needed? How do you avoid the search for the armor's chink that just turns the story into a puzzle?

9pm Sweat and Blisters: How Much Reality Can We Stand in Fantasy Quests? Alan Paulsen, Lois McMaster Bujold, me, Dameon Willich, Renee Stern

Why do people on quests in fantasy literature never sweat? How do you handle all the inconveniences like potty breaks, rain, bugs, rocks under your blanket, carrying enough food and water, etc.? Does it matter?

Saturday

10:30am Reading me (obviously)

I'll read from The Skewed Throne.

11am Signing me (obviously)

I'll sign . . . whatever you want me to sign. *wink, wink*

12pm Hiking the Enchanted Forest: Setting in Fantasy Tammy Tripp, Wolfe Lahti, me

Enchanted forests . . . lonely isles . . . magic mountains . . . What is the importance of setting and landscape in fantasy?

****************************************

And that's it for panels and things. Which is fine with me. I'm on twice as many as I expected. I'll also be attending a few dinners with friends and family over the course of the weekend. Factor in bar-hopping and general laziness . . . and my weekend's booked! Should be a great time. Don't know how connected I'll be once I'm there, so if you don't hear from me . . . assume I'm in the bar. Later!
