We're coming up on the paperback release of The Vacant Throne in January, so to sort of help spread the word about that I've decided I'm going to run a few contests over the next few months. The Vacant Throne is the last book in the trilogy (seriously, I mean that), so the entire series will be out in paperback at that point. Time to celebrate! And since the release happens to coincide (more or less) with the time of year usually associated with the spirit of giving, my first contest will be centered around that.

Spirit of Giving Contest: The idea is that I will donate hardcover copies of The Skewed Throne and The Cracked Throne to any local library that my readers suggest. Yes, donate. This can be a local public library (no matter how "small") or a high school library or college library or the library for the local domestic violence shelter . . . whatever. It should be a library of some sort. All I need from you, the reader, is the name of the contact person for your library and the address where I should send the books. I'll include a letter saying that someone (I'll mention your name if you'd like, or not if you'd prefer) in the community requested that the books be donated to the library. Send the contact person's name and the address to jpalmatier@sff.net. That contest will end on December 1st, 2008.

And that's it. That's all you have to do. Give me the name of the contact person and the address where the books should be sent. (If there is no specific contact person, the address will be fine.)

"Where's the contest part of it?" you ask. Well, everyone who sends me an address will be entered into a random drawing. The winner will receive either hardcover copies of all three of my books OR if they already have them, a $40 gift certificate for amazon.com or B&N.

Unfortunately, due to the cost of shipping, I'll have to restrict all of the addresses for libraries and entrants in the contest to the United States. I do apologize to any out-of-country readers. (I am absorbing the cost of the books and shipping myself.)

So, find out where donations to your local library should be sent, then send that address to me at jpalmatier@sff.net.

And please, feel free to tell everyone about this contest in your blog or LJ or website or whatever, or link to this LJ entry. I'd like to donate the books to as many libraries as possible, but searching out the addresses and contacts myself is rather . . . um, daunting. If you know of a deserving library, feel free to send it along.

Okay this really has not much to do with this post but I just thought of it.

Did you know about the new book store downtown in Binghamton, RiverRead?

One of the owners is a friend of mine. I mentioned you to Jane and said you were a local author. She might be interested in doing something for you at the store. If you let me know I can put you in touch with her. The store is a great space and they want to do readings and the like.

So let me know. The paper back might be a good excuse for it.

I've wandered down to the new bookstore, yes. *grin* They've got the hardcovers of books 1 and 2 on the shelf, signed, and just got in the paperbacks as well. They don't have book 3 yet. I've already started chatting with them about doing something in January, perhaps during First Friday (if it's going to be on January 9th due to the New Year). So watch the LJ. I'm hoping to do a big "Release Party" for all of the local people and would love to have it at RiverRead.

Just sent my library's info over now. You're doing a terrific thing. Our libraries need as much support as they can get!

I plan on keeping this as an open invitation until I run out of books, only the contest has ended. At this point, I still have copies, so send along the address once you know. I'm more than happy to donate them to as many libraries as possible.
