Here's the third entry in the Author Introduction series, and this time it literally is an author introduction, since this is Felix Gilman's first novel. I saw this in the store and had to buy it. I haven't had a chance to start reading it yet (hopefully this weekend), but I hunted Felix down and invited him to the LJ to meet everyone. I'll let him do the talking now.

“Thanks Joshua. Hi everyone.

So this is Livejournal, huh? Nice. Lots of white space. Minimalist, elegant.

My name’s Felix Gilman. My website’s here. I have a blog here. This is my biography, sort of. I mean, it’s not true, not a word of it, not true or coherent or even consistent from one visit to the next, but I still think of it as a biography.

This is true: I live in New York, where I work in a very tall jet-black slightly frightening building full of lawyers.

This is also true: I recently published my first novel. It’s called Thunderer [Amazon, Mysterious Galaxy]. What sort of book is it? That’s actually not clear to me right now. The cover copy bills it as “a novel of high fantasy.” This reviewer feels very strongly that it’s an example of something called “New Weird.” This other reviewer apparently had to coin a new word, “metafantasy,” to describe it.

It has airships, knife-fights, an infinite city, giant birds, mad gods, anarchists, explorers, and a certain small amount of time travel.

It has one lawyer in it. I tried for no bloody lawyers at all, but you can’t suppress the day job entirely, you just can’t, it sneaks in when your guard’s down. She’s pretty cool, though, for a lawyer.

You can read a brief excerpt from it here.

Fantasy Book Critic is hosting a giveaway of three copies, ending March 9, so you might want to give that a shot.

What else? I recently turned in a sequel to Thunderer, called The Gears of the City. That should be coming out at the end of the year. I have a story called “Catastrophe” coming out in Weird Tales later this year. I have a short piece in this new anthology of the New Weird [Amazon, Mysterious Galaxy]. (I see a theme emerging here).

Anyone here from New York? I’ll be giving a reading at South Street Seaport on March 4, and apparently I’m on a panel about something or other at ComicCon. I will be the tall mumbly British person who’s bad at making eye contact.

Anyway. I hope you’ll take a look at the book, or come to the blog and say hello in the comments.

Maybe you’ll give your consideration to my presidential campaign. I need your vote! Or a donation! I need donations badly if I'm gonna catch up with Obama. Seriously.

Thank you for your time.”

Looks good.

Yet another book I have to read once I get myself up and running on the book budget again.

Yeah, I'd already decided to try to get an author introduction post for the book. Didn't know if it would work out or not. But it did!

Certainly you can link back to this post!

I stopped in today but didn't see you. Was on a tight schedule anyway. I got a few more of those books from the "stack".
