I'm prone to motion sickness, and while the initial camera work bothered me, after a few moments I settled down and it was fine. The "normal" scenes at the beginning were the worst, ironically once the action started the camera work was easier to follow.
And I completely agree that expectations are everything--those people who came to the theater expecting an ordinary movie experience were the ones who left grumbling to themselves.
