Oh, definitely. There was one incident in Midnight Never Come where I needed a bit of current political intrigue involving Ireland; what I uncovered turned out to be perfect, as it involved one of Walsingham's own men. And then there are the details that are so ridiculous, you would never dare include them if they were invention: the imprisoned members of Parliament (a side-plot from In Ashes Lie) really were held in a place nicknamed "Hell." I complain over here (http://mindyklasky.livejournal.com/324653.html) about Victorian history causing me problems, but ultimately, the realization that the Fenians were bombing the Underground in 1884 added a whole layer to my story that, once I saw it, seemed like it had always been there.
