. . . you have obviously NOT been preordering the hundreds and hundreds of copies of my book that you should have been ordering at amazon.com, because my sales ranking there is currently . . . #550,647. Tut tut.

Actually, the sales rankings have been explained to me and I still don't understand how they're calculated, but my impression is that they're really meaningless. Except in an obscure way. Something about how they're calculated every few weeks unless you're J.K. Rowling, in which case they're calculated every few seconds to assure everyone that she is, indeed, still #1. As well as #2, #3, #4, #5, and #6. Plus #9 (the all-five-paperbacks-in-one-box version).

But this is only preorders, and a few people are waiting to buy it and get it signed locally, so I won't complain bitterly too much right now.

I'll wait until January.

Hey, Josh...

It's me...Tina...one of your favorite Waldenbook friends.. :)

I found your blog through Sarah M. She told me how your book is going to be published by DAW and everything. I'm so excited for you! That is very cool. I promise to pre-order, but I hope you'll sign my copy... :)

Oh, and I hear you're officially done with the PhD, so now you're "Dr. Josh"...how fun!

Hey, Tina! Thanks for the congrats. I wouldn't preorder though (the posting was tongue-in-cheek, since I don't expect to have a goods sales ranking, especially now). I'd wait and come to a local signing, probably at Waldenbooks. Of course, preordering might be cheaper. And of course I'll sign whatever copy you've got.

And oh yeah, I finished the PhD.

I don't remember telling Sarah about the blog, but oh well. A webpage for the books will be up soon as well. Keep watch.

Aha! But no, I don't mind. This is to be the "fan" resource so that I don't have to continuously update my webpage. They can just come here to see the daily/weekly news. I'll only change the webpage for serious things, like release dates of books and cover art and such.

So join in. I'll friend you if you don't mind. And keep watch. Signings are being planned.

Okay, I'll hold off on pre-ordering then. I usually don't read much fantasy (think you knew that), but for you, I will make an exception. I'm so proud of you, and I can't wait to read your first book!

Sounds good. I'd like to sell a FEW at the signings.

And now back to finishing off the first draft of the second book. Only two and half more chapters to go I think. One more revelation (the chapter I'm working on), then two endgame chapters, big battles, lots of death and destruction . . . with a little cunning thrown in to spice it up.

Sales rank was 112,382 as of today, so looks like it's been updated. Not that I'm encouraging you to obsess over these things....

Wow! You're right! It's dropped a little since you looked, but it's much, much better than yesterday, when I believe it was around 660,000 plus.

And I'm obsessing already, although yesterday I managed to tell myself that it means nothing right now, that I need to wait and TRULY obsess in January.
