I'm doing a guest blog today over at Deborah J. Ross's blogspot. I talk about how nothing you create, even if it doesn't sell, is every really wasted. This was an outgrowth of the blog I posted at Kate Elliott's hangout, so the first part of the post is the same as there, but it diverges into something else later on, so keep reading if it starts of sounding familiar. *grin*

Hey, everyone! I've learned that my newest book Leaves of Flame is rather hard to find on the shelf at some of the brick and mortar bookstores. What this means is that "word of mouth" is going to be the most important way to help spread the word about the book; people aren't going to randomly run across it at the bookstore, in other words. I was originally going to simply do a post and beg you all, on hands and knees, to please, please, pretty please mention the book on your own blogs, Facebook, Twitter, etc. out of the kindness of your heart. Instead, I'm going to run a contest. The rules are fairly simple:

1. For a mention in your blog, you get one entry. Leave a comment here with a link to the mention at your blog.

2. For a mention on Facebook, you get one entry. In the mention, include a tag to either of my two profiles: Joshua B. Palmatier or Benjamin Tate.

3. For a mention on Twitter, you get one entry. In the mention, include either @bentateauthor or #leavesofflame.

Each type of entry is only good once, so even if you mention it twenty times on Twitter, it's only one entry, although I'll love you forever. So the maximum number of entries is three, one for each type.

The prize will be a copy of Leaves of Flame. If you're in the US, I'll mail you the paperback, signed. If you're outside the US, I can send you the eARC of the book. The number of prizes will depend on the number of entries I receive. If ten people enter, I'll give away one book; if a hundred enter, I'll give away five copies, etc.

The contest will run until January 31st. I'll announce winners, chosen at random, on February 1st or soon thereafter.

Regardless of the contest, I'd really appreciate anything you guys can to do help spread the word about the book, so feel free to link back to the contest, talk about it to your friends in person, etc. I'd also appreciate posting a review of Well of Sorrows or Leaves of Flame on your blog, at Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, on Goodreads, at Library Journal, etc. Anything you think would help spread the word. If you've already got a book, spread the word anyway and maybe win a copy to give to a friend!

Thanks in advance for helping spread the word. And good luck if you enter!

I'm guesting over at Gillian Polack's blog today ([livejournal.com profile] gillpolack), talking about how I create operationl cultures and societies in my writing. This is especially relavent to Leaves of Flame, because I had three different clashing cultures in these books and making them distinct and interesting was something I spent a lot of time at. Swing by and check it out!

Hey, I ran across this (well, google alerts pinged me about it) today. Jessica at Book Sake chose The Modern Fae's Guide to Surviving Humanity as her "Waiting for Wednesday" pick of the week this week. Apparently, a group of readers pick one book that they're waiting to hit the shelves each Wednesday and then they can all check out what everyone else is waiting for. Thanks for the plug, Jessica!.
