[livejournal.com profile] annathepiper requested that I give a shout-out to an online convention called CoyoteCon and I requested that she send me some of her thoughts and additional information on it. Below, I've got what she had to say. It doesn't appear that I'll be able to attend the con, even though it's online, mostly because of the release of Ben Tate's new book and all of the chaos surrounding that, combined with the hectic schedule of finishing off the spring semester (finals, grading, etc). However, I did go check out the website and it looks like it's well-organized. I encourage everyone to go check it out! It started today, but it's running all month, so there's plenty of time to get in on the action. And here's that additional information:

From [livejournal.com profile] annathepiper:

Any writer serious about his or her craft has very likely considered attending a writers' convention. They're an extremely valuable experience, not only for the opportunity to learn more about topics pertinent to any number of facets of writing craft and of the publishing industry in general, but also for the chance to interact with others who are on the same quest you are: publication. Moreover, you'll get to interact with professionals in the industry: established writers who have done what you're trying to do, editors who may eventually be the people who buy your work, or agents who could be the ones to help you get it into editorial hands.

The problem is, especially with the current economy, writers' conventions are expensive! Unless you're lucky enough to live locally to a convention, you have to pay for the plane fare to get there, a hotel room to stay in, and the meals you'll eat while you're there. For a lot of us, this just isn't happening.

Fortunately, we have the Internet--and the capability to hold writers' conventions online! And Drollerie Press, its staff, and authors would like to invite you to CoyoteCon, our first online writers' convention!

All throughout the month of May, we're hosting chats on a variety of writing and publishing topics. Several Drollerie authors will be speaking, and we'll be bringing in speakers from all walks of publishing as well. All you need to do if you'd like to check out the event is to consult our schedule, find the sessions you're interested in, and register to join them! Registration is free, but we do ask that you sign up for the sessions you want to attend, so as to keep the chat sessions manageable for our moderators.

In tandem with CoyoteCon, Drollerie author Joely Sue Burkhart is hosting a Maynowrimo--like Nanowrimo, only with a variety of self-chosen goals from all participants--and she'll be highlighting guest blog posts on writing topics as well!

Come over to CoyoteCon.com for more information: a list of guest speakers, our schedule of chats, and how to sign up and get into the chat rooms. And check out joelysueburkhart.com for more information on Maynowrimo!

Thanks much to Joshua for letting me have the floor on his journal, and thank you, Joshua's readers, for reading. Hope to see some of you over at CoyoteCon this month!
