You know those author copies that I thought I had? Nope. I got home today, all excited, ripped open the box . . . and it was indeed paperback copies of my book, but they were the ones that I'd ordered directly from the publisher, NOT my author copies. The only reason I have a copy of Cracked Throne is because I ordered one from amazon.

Oh well. It's in the bookstores! Many, many copies!! You should get one. *grin*

Along with another DAW release, Goblin Quest by Jim C. Hines, aka [livejournal.com profile] dsnight. Better hurry though. There's only 5 copies left at amazon! Check out his website. He's got a few contests running.

More self-promotion

I'll be up in Albany this Saturday doing a signing at Flights of Fantasy along with fellow DAW author Barbara Campbell. The signing starts at 7pm. Don't be late!

Also, for those near Philadelphia, I'll be attending Philcon starting November 17th. I'll post my schedule for that next week, although it appears that I've got one panel on Saturday and 2 on Sunday. Just can't remember their titles at the moment.

My life

I've been so busy with the teaching and the writing of exams and grading of quizzes that I haven't had much of a chance to write or enjoy the book release. But I did get a little writing done earlier this week, including the last big surprise "reveal" in Vacant Throne. And I figured out how to resolve an issue that had been bothering me for a while. You see, in books, you usually have more than one bad guy. But having Varis run around killing them all at the end in order to tie up loose ends just doesn't work. So I was trying to figure out what to do, what to do, . . . and then driving in to work on Wednesday, it hit me: the perfect solution!

Which of course I won't share with you because I'm a bastard. *grin* You'll just have to read the book when it comes out.

But the coolest thing is that it's already set up. The whole idea gives me that weird tingly good feeling in my chest. This may very well just be the stress, sleep deprivation, and long driving talking though. We'll have to see.

I just received my first royalty statement. I thought I was prepared for the horror of it all. I was certainly forwarned by numerous well-meaning people, but I blundered on thinking it couldn't possibly be as bad as all that.

I should be shot for writing a book that sold so little. So very, very, very, very little. Sheila must be cursing herself for purchasing the book, let alone two sequels.

Oh gods, it hurts, it hurts, it hurts. I know I'm whining and complaining to people that most likely have read the book and perhaps possibly enjoyed it as well, but I have no one else to whine to. So in parting, I'd like to thank you all for your support of Skewed Throne.

I'm now going to go cry. And drink. And cry some more. And drink much, much more. And then add some drink to the drink and drink more.

And oh gods, I have a signing tomorrow. Hah!

ETA: Thanks for all the good wishes, everyone. I've calmed down a little. (I posted pretty much immediately after seeing the report.) I'm still in shock though. I've emailed my agent and am waiting to see what her interpretation of the numbers is.
