Questions Answered
Aug. 7th, 2006 09:09 amI recently asked if you had any questions. Here are some of the answers. Feel free to ask more questions in this post.
everyonesakitty What's your alcoholic beverage of choice? White Russians with Skyy and Kahlua. (I'm not a cheap date.)
jeffpalmatier If your writing career really takes off to the point that you can support yourself solely through your writing, will you keep your day job? Depends. At the moment, my day job is 3 hours away from where I live, so I travel down on Monday, teach til Thursday, then drive back Thursday night. This sucks. So if I could support myself with the writing at this point, I'd ditch the day job. If I was making enough on the writing that I could support myself decently, even with a day job that was closer, I'd probably still ditch it. I love teaching, but writing is my true love and if I could spend all of my time working on that, with no monetary worries, I would.
As for the other comment, I get that alot. I never thought about it much. I was told as I grew up that the writing thing was fine and good, but I also needed to have a fallback plan in case the writing didn't take off, that I'd need a secure job just in case. I'd wanted to teach math since the sixth grade (wanting to write started in the eighth grade), so I went with that.
anghara What's your favourite aspect of the writing game?... (creating the work? being read?) I'd have to go with creating the work. I obsess and fret and worry as I'm writing it, as you can see in the LJ entries, but finishing it, or writing something that I really think is good . . . that gives me a sense of euphoria that can't be beat. Revising and page proofing and all that is OK, but that's more analytical. I like the creation process much more. Of course, it comes with much higher highs and lower lows as well.
Thanks for all the questions! Now, if you like, leave a comment here with your answer to your own question. (Just to turn it around on you all. *grin*)
