And I'm Back

Saturday was just as hectic as Friday at Lunacon and I ran into even more people from LJ, including agent [livejournal.com profile] onyxhawke, author [livejournal.com profile] suricattus, artist [livejournal.com profile] storn_cook, editor [livejournal.com profile] safewrite, fan [livejournal.com profile] jennythe_reader, agent [livejournal.com profile] varkat, and editor [livejournal.com profile] clarkesworld of the HUGO nominated semiprozine Clarkesworld Magazine. Not all at once in a mob group of course, but at scattered points throughout the con both Saturday and Sunday.

Let's see, Saturday. Got up and around for a panel by reading by [livejournal.com profile] scbutler, followed by a reading by [livejournal.com profile] suricattus. Then my combined reading with Barbara Campbell and my autographing, which was interesting because there wasn't any actual table set up for the autographing (at least not labeled). So Lawrence Schoen and I chose a table at random, which was good because some people actually showed up to have me sign copies of books! So that was fun. Afterwards, one of the con staff showed us the table that they'd set up with all of the autographing here signs, but apparently it had been set up after our signing started. Oh well, things went well anyway. Then I rushed off to my "Queerness and SF" panel which was very well attended. After that I wandered the dealer's room, chatted with fans, and managed to sell a few copies of my books at Larry Smith's table (selling out of their copies of Skewed Throne, which I restocked for them). I had a little bit of down time in my room at this point (much needed), and then it was off to a panel that [livejournal.com profile] scbutler was on called "Revisionist Fairy Tales & Other Retelling."

After this, everyone went off to gather their things for dinner. I'd hoped to go back to the Italian restaurant that [livejournal.com profile] barbarienne had taken me to the night before, but when we arrived it was reservations only for the evening, so we crossed the street to a Mexican place that was actually extremely good. Sam made certain I ate. I also ordered a White Russian with Grey Goose . . . and got a glass of pure vodka instead. So I ordered a ginger ale and had vodka and ginger.

We returned to the hotel and retired to the bar for some ACTUAL White Russians, and then after that we hit Leigh Grossman's party. I spent WAY too much time at the party, finally leaving around 2am, although I had a great time talking to the UConn students and other various industry people, such as Jim Freund and such. Unfortunately, I couldn't sleep in, waking up around 7:30am, so I didn't get much sleep.

Sunday was a little more relaxed. I wandered the halls, sat for a time in some chairs, running into a few people, and then I had my "Swimming with Dragons" panel. I've never personally swum with dragons, but the panel went well. Since there were only two panelists, we opened it up to a discussion with the audience.

And after that I settled up with Sally (I'd sold a few more books YAY!) and departed for a mostly uneventful trip home (I missed the exit for 17 so had to be a little creative to get back on track). A good con overall, much better than I expected, and better than last year. Next up . . . NORWESCON!! I'll post my schedule for that next week more than likely.

"We returned to the hotel and retired to the bar for some ACTUAL White Russians..."

Okay, I just keep discarding every possible oh-so-obvious responses to that.

Glad it went well!

2 A.M.? Oy!

Yep, I should've gone. Maybe next time. LOL.

It was really good to see you! I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to say good bye. [livejournal.com profile] swimtech and I were dashing back right after our last panel.

I realized last night as I was falling asleep that I had forgotten my leftovers in the fridge in my room. Maybe I better call the hotel and make sure they clean it out...

Actually, you forgot to get MY DINNER out of your refrigerator at the con. You see, I went to eat my carbonara last night and discovered . . . that it was chicken! With salad on!

The mixed up our takehome, the bastards.

If only either of us had bothered to eat it sooner...!

Sadly there were so many people there that I wanted to meet and put faces to I never got a chance to run into them. That and I swear every panel I was interested in going to from a fan perspective was run opposite a panel I was talking on.

And you mix up with the alcohol was a pretty minor situation compared to the results at most of the other places people ate at. I see that http://safewrite.livejournal.com/ already did a write up at our experience with one of the other places to eat.

Yes, no actual diseases were caught at dinner, thank goodness. *grin*

I'm sure we'll be at a future con at the same time and can catch each other in the bar then. Balticon perhaps?

I'm currently in scheduling difficulties with my day job, but I'm working on my availability for Balticon.

Good to see you again. Who knows at some con in the future we may talk long enough for the conversation to reach double digits in minutes.

We do only seem to run into each other in passing, although we pass each other alot as well. *grin*
