Time to Get "Serious"
Jun. 26th, 2005 06:04 pmSo, the first book revisions are done and in. I expect to hear from my editor on whether or not they were acceptable this week . . . maybe next week.
In the meantime, I need to get serious about book 2. I wrote 6 chapters of it last summer and just spent the last few days rereading all of those to get myself back up to speed. I've also reviewed my (few) notes on what I was thinking way back then. They weren't all that helpful. For example: "Chapter 8: Varis sees random ship being attacked???" I have similar comments covering chapters 7-12. So you could say I have a broad outline of the rest of the book. However, all of that deals with the main plotline, nothing about all the little subplots that connect up to the main plotline. *sigh*
But in good news, the first 6 chapters are keepers I think. I was surprised at how good they were actually, considering what I remember of them. I need to revise one thing in chapter 6 that changed during the revisions to the first book, and I need to do assorted age changes, since Varis is no longer as old in book 2 as she was originally. But I like what's there right now.
So, tomorrow I'm revising that one section in chapter 6 and then I hope to get to work on chapter 7, the start of the big push to get the rest of the novel finished by the end of the summer. HA!
The Cracked Throne
*gasp!* I can't believe the first 6 chapters comes out to almost half the proposed length! Oh shit! There's no way this will fit inside 100,000 words. . . . Thank God I have a contract with DAW. Motto: "Length? Pshaw!"
