For those keeping track (all 0 of you), I managed to finally get back to writing the novel today after 2 weeks of day job hell. Not as deep in day job hell as [livejournal.com profile] pbray at the moment, but it was pretty bad. I think I've settled into the new routine and hope to continue the writing at a steady pace again from now on.

But anyway! What about the geekdom?!?! Well . . . in a fit of uncontrolled geekiness, I ordered a bunch of DVDs during a sale. Some of these I've owned before, but lost in the flood of 2006 (and the subsequent theft of most of what survived). Some I saw and just went "OMG, I remember that! It rocked! I must have that!" so here is my list, with an occasional comment. I expect certain people to re-evaluate how geeky they consider me based on this list:

"Labyrinth"--OMG! I love the logic puzzle with the two doors. And it's mazes!!
"The Dark Crystal"--Jim Henson and fantasy. Nuff said.
"Men in Black"--Just SF fun, what can I say.
"Willow"--I realize that some of your opinion of me may drop on this one, but it was STILL fun and I have to have it.
"Time Bandits"--I don't know what to say. The end is weird, but the story . . .
"The Ice Pirates"--I cannot tell you how much I laughed at this campy movie. OMG. I haven't seen this in ages and can't wait for it to arrive.
"The Beastmaster"--Also campy, and not necessarily in the funny way (not intentionally funny) but there are scenes of this that I STILL remember, so had to get it. Also, there are ferrets.
"Close Encounters of the Third Kind"--I need say nothing about this, I hope.

The only other movie that I'd like to get but can't seem to find is "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen", which I also laughed hard enough to hurt myself on while watching. I'm sure there are other movies out there I'm missing (and there's a bunch that I already own, like "Dragonslayer" and such). But I think this is plenty of evidence of my geekiness for everyone.

Discuss.

We should have a movie night sometime. Or a movie week. We could spend one whole day watching LOTR.

I love the part in Baron Munchausen where the man who can run fast trips. I would buy the movie just for that scene alone. *grin*

I made my Nin90 words the last 2 days. Assuming that this continues the next few days, I should be back for Nin90!

OH, Legend and Neverending Story are on my replacement list but weren't part of the sale. I will be replacing them as well in the future. *grin*

The next time Susan and I do a LOTRathon (with rabbit stew) all Binghamton Scoobies will be invited. If there aren't enough beds, you can sleep in tents in the backyard.

I only saw it once, back when it was first released, and then only because the fellow who starred in it played Marco Polo in a tv miniseries I liked, but it certainly has its moments. Most of which cry out for MST3King.

The whole thing is just too monty python-ish for me to really find funny. I don't like my funny to try to smack me outside my face and beat me up.

I'll admit to 'Conan The Barbarian' as a guilty pleasure. Certainly need to add 'Brazil' for your Terry Gilliam collection.

Hmmm, searching through IMDB I realize I watched many more SF movies than Fantasy. I'll save those for another blog post.

Beastmaster, followed closely by Men in Black. :) I loved the ferrits, and then fell in love with the TV series.

Krull is a definite must. It is an excellent fantasy and another one I tend to watch if it happens to be on.

I have complete <3ness for MIB. There are very few times when Will Smith fails to please. It helps that I love sci-fi & smart comedy...

...& gooey mishaps.
