For those keeping track (all 0 of you), I managed to finally get back to writing the novel today after 2 weeks of day job hell. Not as deep in day job hell as [livejournal.com profile] pbray at the moment, but it was pretty bad. I think I've settled into the new routine and hope to continue the writing at a steady pace again from now on.

But anyway! What about the geekdom?!?! Well . . . in a fit of uncontrolled geekiness, I ordered a bunch of DVDs during a sale. Some of these I've owned before, but lost in the flood of 2006 (and the subsequent theft of most of what survived). Some I saw and just went "OMG, I remember that! It rocked! I must have that!" so here is my list, with an occasional comment. I expect certain people to re-evaluate how geeky they consider me based on this list:

"Labyrinth"--OMG! I love the logic puzzle with the two doors. And it's mazes!!
"The Dark Crystal"--Jim Henson and fantasy. Nuff said.
"Men in Black"--Just SF fun, what can I say.
"Willow"--I realize that some of your opinion of me may drop on this one, but it was STILL fun and I have to have it.
"Time Bandits"--I don't know what to say. The end is weird, but the story . . .
"The Ice Pirates"--I cannot tell you how much I laughed at this campy movie. OMG. I haven't seen this in ages and can't wait for it to arrive.
"The Beastmaster"--Also campy, and not necessarily in the funny way (not intentionally funny) but there are scenes of this that I STILL remember, so had to get it. Also, there are ferrets.
"Close Encounters of the Third Kind"--I need say nothing about this, I hope.

The only other movie that I'd like to get but can't seem to find is "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen", which I also laughed hard enough to hurt myself on while watching. I'm sure there are other movies out there I'm missing (and there's a bunch that I already own, like "Dragonslayer" and such). But I think this is plenty of evidence of my geekiness for everyone.

Discuss.

My compliments on the entire list. I found Baron Munchausen boring but the rest are spot on.

Hee - good list :D

And any film with ferrets is gooooood.....

Sorry about the day job hell - but do we see you back at Ni90 now?

So many I've seen, so many I have...

Is it worse that we're geeks or that we're 80's geeks?

I've never seen Krull. Is it a must?

The Princess Bride and The Neverending Story weren't part of the sale. I used to own them and intend to buy them again, don't worry. *grin*

Well, as a KID I watched it for the ferrets. I haven't seen it since, so I may have slightly different . . . um . . . criteria now.

Some people have . . . different opinions about Willow. I remember them dissing the movie when it came out and I just sat back silently and disagreed with them. I thought it rocked.

I remember the Storyteller series. I almost bought it as well. And Steven Spielberg's Amazing Stories.

I had the Princess Bride, but it wasn't part of the sale. I'll be getting it again, definitely.

Never seen it. Only sort of heard of it. Am I lacking part of my geek heritage?

All I remember about Willow after seeing in the theatre was that everyone in my "circle" at the time ripped it to shreds. I just sat back quietly and hated them all. *grin* Glad to know it was just my circle back then.

Ice Pirates is HILARIOUS! You should Netflix it at least, just for the battle scene at the end if nothing else. It's campy in the best way possible.

And I have been looking for Baron Muchausen since FOREVER. I really need to find it. Might have to see if my brother can get it from Netflix.

Oh, the list was just what I could get from the sale. There were LOTS of things I want or need to replace that weren't part of the sale.

I fully intend to replace the lost LadyHawke and Princess Bride. I'd forgotten about Hook and Flight of the Navigator. Never seen Explorers (I don't think), but how could I forget Last Star Fighter! And WarGames! I have things to add to my list I see.

I'd forgotten this one too. I've added it to my "wish" list.

Definitely. It's on my replacement list but wasn't part of this sale.

LadyHawke is on the replacement list but wasn't part of this sale. I will definitely be replacing it.

You can mock me, although I did get some writing done, just didn't report it. Certainly nothing like 750 words per day. I hope to return to Nin90 shortly. I made my word count for today and yesterday though. I should probably report that.
