So today's writer tip is about "Inventing a Religion" for your fantasy (or SF) world . . . and it's not here. I got an invitation to be a guest blogger over at Magical Words by [livejournal.com profile] madkestrel and decided I could talk about religion because it was such a noncontroversial topic. *grin* In any case, head on over and check it out (I assume it's up at this point; if not, check back later today). It's just my own ramblings on the topic. Feel free to comment over there AND here as well. Enjoy!

And that’s what I have to say about inventing a religion for your magical world. Or at least, a few words. I could probably go on and on and on about it, but don’t want to hog all of the blog time. What do you guys think about creating religions for your work?

In my newest erotica novel, Our Lady Of Pain, religion is the main theme. It's a twisted BDSM-based one that was been created by some mad English poet who was pining after his dead prostitute Mistress. He never liked organized religion, often went out of his way to insult it publically and as one more kick to the balls, elevated his Mistress to a Goddess-like persona. Surprisingly, it caught on with the kinky London crowd and is now an secret, international organization with tax-exempt status. Heehee. I hear they are always looking for serious converts.

Ooh, good stuff.

Religion is always of interest to me because I can't seem to write a novel without it being a central, bloody theme.

That's some good advice. It'll come in handy on my next revision.
