OK, it's that time of year again, when all of us scramble for the perfect gift idea--or just any gift idea--for friends, family, etc. Since I'm a book-o-phile, naturally I think that books are the best gifts EVER! And I know that as an author, the best gift a total stranger can give to me is to purchase my books, for themselves or for their friends or family, so spread the joy of books around! I figured I'd post a list of some of the authors here at LiveJournal, with links to their books for my closest friends here. I'm setting myself up for annoyance or the potential for accidentally dissing someone because I left them out of the list, but the intent here is to just point out some of my friends' books that you might have overlooked. I'm not rating these books, just pointing out that they are out there. You should research them through the links and decide whether or not they would be appropriate gifts for yourself or your friends and family. (I'm totally stealing the format for this from Jim C. Hines.)

First, the self-promo/pimpage:

Of course, you should consider my own fantasy novels. The Skewed Throne [Hardcover: Amazon, Mysterious Galaxy; Paperback: Amazon, Mysterious Galaxy], The Cracked Throne [Hardcover: Amazon, Mysterious Galaxy; Paperback: Amazon, Mysterious Galaxy], and The Vacant Throne [Hardcover: Amazon, Mysterious Galaxy].

Now, the friend pimpage:

Patricia Bray's ([livejournal.com profile] pbray's) fantasy series: The Sword of Change: Devlin's Luck [Paperback: Amazon, Mysterious Galaxy], Devlin's Honor [Paperback: Amazon, Mysterious Galaxy], and Devlin's Justice [Paperback: Amazon, Mysterious Galaxy]; and The Chronicles of Josan: The First Betrayal [Paperback: Amazon, Mysterious Galaxy], and The Sea Change [Paperback: Amazon, Mysterious Galaxy].

Jennifer Dunne's ([livejournal.com profile] jennifer_dunner's) Romances: First, the fantasy romances, the World Gate series: Not Quite Camelot [Amazon] and Shadow Prince [Amazon]; then the science fiction romance Fugitive Lovers [Amazon]; and finally the paranormal romance Sex Magic [Amazon].

S.C. Butler's ([livejournal.com profile] scbutler's) Young Adult series: Reiffen's Choice [Amazon, Mysterious Galaxy] and Queen Ferris [Amazon, Mysterious Galaxy].

Barbara Campbell's Fantasy series: Heartwood [Amazon, Mysterious Galaxy] and Bloodstone [Amazon, Mysterious Galaxy].

Jim C. Hines's ([livejournal.com profile] jimhines's) goblin fantasy series: Goblin Quest [Amazon, Mysterious Galaxy] and Goblin Hero [Amazon, Mysterious Galaxy].

There are also plenty of other authors here on LJ with books out now, including but not limited to the following:

I'm sure I've left someone off the list. Feel free to harrangue me if so. These are those on my friends list. And let me know if one of the links doesn't work or points to the wrong book or something. This took alot more work than I originally thought it would.

I'll just go cry into my pillow. Which I keep at work for just such an occasion.

Did you not notice the "books out NOW" part of the post? *grin* I considered putting you on there, but you're book isn't out until February, right?

If I knew how to read, I wouldn't be a writer!

Oh, when it gets close to your book release you can do an interview post or something on my LJ if you want. Make it part of a virtual tour or something. If you're interested.

I have a book out now. :-) (But I promise not to cry into my pillow about it.)

The same one that was out a year ago, actually, because Holiday House is good about the keeping-books-in-print thing.

Damn! I knew I'd miss someone if I tried to do this. But I think this ommission (which I've corrected) was because I was thinking your adult book is not out until next year, and totally forgot about the children's book that's already out. I'm so sorry!

Oh, no need to apologize--I don't think it's even possible to keep track of every writer on lj!

And it's pretty cool of you to be doing this at all. :-)

Having made many affilite links in my time, I know that was a lot of hard work, and want to express my empathetic appreciation!

Thank you! It did take a while. And I originally started with larger aspirations, but after the first few authors it got "trimmed". *grin*

This is very cool and you get huge karma points for pulling all this together.

I'd love to emulate you--but not until after Turkey Day. I can't possibly think about holiday shopping yet, it's too soon!

Karma points are good. I'll hoard them.

And you haven't shopped AT ALL?!?!?!

Wait, people shop in November? They don't wait until Midwinter Day?

What is this *shopping* of which you speak? This is an earth custom I know not.

You know: it's when you give somebody money, and they give you books :D

But that is not shopping. That is adoption--giving a deserving home to worthy tomes.

*Furiously scribbling notes*

I am glad I checked out LJ before my trip out to the bookstore! I really enjoyed the post, and perusing the other author's pages. Thanks for posting, I will definitely be referring to this list again.

Don't forget to check out Janni Lee Simner's children's book "Secret of the Three Treasures" if you need a kid's book. I accidentally left her off the list originally (which I knew I'd do . . . well, not her specifically, but that I'd miss someone).

Done and done, including pimpage on a few communities.

On an unrelated note, went to the book store tonight to buy the first in the Throne series, and they were sold out! :( I had to order it, so hopefully I'll get it in a week.

This is a very cool list, and it must have taken ages to do all that coding! (You are dodging a big heap of marking, I can tell!) It will come in very handy when I am (a) picking out a Chanukah present for my little brother and (b) gently hinting to the spousal unit re: Chanukah/anniversary/Xmas presents :)

Actually, I was grading papers at the time, both for this AND for the query letter help. How'd you guess? *grin* I need the break. Otherwise the grading just gets too depressing.

How'd I guess? I'm a faculty brat, that's how. ;^)

(Also, I'm a copy editor, which can feel a lot like marking papers sometimes...)

See, I knew I'd forget people or just miss them. I left off [livejournal.com profile] janni as well. I'll update the post. That's the problem going through almost 300 friends and trying to pick out those you know have published.
