OK, so I was quiet yesterday because I was driving down to Pittsburgh so I could speak at the PARSEC meeting. PARSEC is the local group of science fiction enthusiasts and they'd invited me down to talk about me, the books, writing, publishing, pretty much everything and everything. I had a blast at the meeting and te subsequent dinner afterwards, met lots of new people, including
_starlady_ and
ambasadora. If any of you are in the Pittsburgh area, I'd highly recommend attending the PARSEC meetings and getting to know some of your fellow SF enthusiasts in the area. Also, check out some of their other activites, like the writing contest and their Alpha group--a writing workshop for teens from all over the world. And of course they run the convention Confluence. Great people, and great fun.
I'd also like to point out (as others have already) that Pandemonium, an independent genre bookstore in Boston, Mass. is in trouble and is looking to sell 1000 t-shirts. If you don't like t-shirts, they're also accepting donations via PayPal, or so I heard. The details for that are here. If we don't support the independent genre bookstores, they WILL disappear.
Also, as most of you know I'm running a review contest for both The Skewed Throne and The Cracked Throne. In a slight adjustment to the rules, if you post your review at multiple sites (amazon, B&N, blogs, Myspace, websites, threads in forums, etc) you get an entry for EACH POST. So, you get an entry for each post AND an entry for each book, so writing 2 reviews (one for each book) could land you many, many entries. Just sayin'.
jimhines has already rocked the entries, with a post here on LJ and one at amazon.
Ahem, but the point is that for one review, you can also enter TWO--count them TWO--contests! There's a review contest going on over at Writing Aspirations called Debut A Debut, with numerous great prizes, including $20 gift certificates at B&N and tons of free books. The idea is to review a debut novel from last year and post it on their site. If you check out the list of potential books there, I'm sure there's a few that you've already read. So check it out, write that review for Skewed Throne, and enter both contests. What do you have to lose?
And lastly (for now), I've created a Myspace account. At the moment, it's rather sad. I have 2 friends.
comixboy, my tried and true friend (the one that suffered through ALL 5 VERSIONS of that rather horrid first novel, for those of you at the PARSEC meeting and heard to speak of that). And "Tim", the administrator assigned to help me. I need more friends! *grin* So if you'd like, friend me over there as well. I intend to post mostly writing oriented things over there. But I'll post the same articles here as well. (
storytellersjem: I've attempted to friend you, but I'm awaiting the email for confirmation . . . or something.)
And that's it for now. Later!

Date: 2007-02-11 04:02 pm (UTC)I'm going to buy a Pandemonium shirt for my friend - he'll love it. I'll also stop by when I'm in Boston next time. It sounds like a cool store!

Date: 2007-02-12 03:04 pm (UTC)I drove home and fell asleep immediately after I left you at the bookstore with Nils and Bill. Hope that all worked out and you found your car again w/o trouble. Exhausting weekend, but the time I spent with you was a bright spot. Thanks so much. And now I can't wait to read your books.
