The first weekend of revisions is over.
Mar. 26th, 2006 06:07 pmUgh. Today was rough. The scene I had to add to chapter 3 went on forever! I think it's a good scene, but it introduces a new character that wasn't in the original version at all. So now I have to figure out how that person is going to change the plot for the rest of the novel. I don't think it will be all that bad actually. The new character (who I really like so far; he's fun) should facilitate some of the other changes that my editor suggested. Most of the changes will pertain to the slums and how Varis deals with or handles the people in them in her new position. We'll see, I guess.
So, aside from a read-through tomorrow or Tuesday of chapter 3, I think the first set of chapters are fixed. I started reading chapter 4, but my head hurt by then, and my ears from the earbuds, so I decided to call it quits. I'll read through chapter 4 this week and see what I need to fix on that. I don't think there's anything significant. I can't think of anything I can add to it to make it more active and still achieve any of the goals my editor gave me. And I can't get myself to add a scene just to make it more active. A quick scan of chapter 5 gives me some ideas for what I could add there to address some of her concerns. I like how chapter 5 begins, so I've got to figure out a way to still start it there, but bring in the new ideas anyway. Hmm . . .
And now my brain is clicking. I really can't do any more writing tonight though. *sigh*
So, my goal of 3 chapters a weekend has been met. In more mundane "I have a day job" news, I got all of my exams for this week written. And I got my lectures done, which is good because one of the other professors is going to come observe my class tomorrow. It would be good to have something to teach. This week is busy in other respects as well: 2 committee meetings, I'm subbing for someone else's class, . . . Bah! And all I want to do is revise. *grin*
No new music for revisions today. Same old, same old.
