Lunacon Schedule
Feb. 14th, 2006 01:17 pmFor those of you in the area or attending the con, here's my Lunacon schedule:
Friday: 4:00-5:00 p.m. Driving the Snakes from Hasbrouck Heights
Victoria McManus, Andy Wheeler, Joshua Palmatier, Alexandra Honigsberg
In honor of St. Patrick's Day, the staff has scattered snakes throughout the hotel, and whoever collects the most snakes will be awarded a prize at the book raffle drawing on Sunday. But in the meantime, this
panel will get you started with favorite stories about snakes in fantasy and SF
- and bonus snakes for all attendees.
Friday: 10:00-11:00 p.m. A Look at Epic Fantasy
Louis Epstein, Douglas E. Cohen, Kevin DiVico , Joshua Palmatier, Kathleen David
An examination of many of the biggest epics out there, from Tolkien to George R. R. Martin, why they’re
so successful, what has become cliché, and what is fresh and interesting.
Saturday: 7:00-8:00 p.m. Language of Accomodation
Leigh Grossman , Lawrence Schoen, Alma Alexander, Joshua Palmatier, Greg Feeley
How does language affect writers and readers? If a word
doesn't exist for a concept, are we capable of envisioning it? Does the
language we understand predispose us to think in certain ways?
Sunday: 11:00-12:00 p.m. Have We Lost Narnia?
James Henderson, Joshua Palmatier, Donna Ansari, David Honigsberg , Peter Heck
Should we be worried that all the
people who rush to condemn Harry Potter and most works of fantasy loved the
Narnia film? Is the film good fantasy, religious propaganda - or both? Is it
true to C. S. Lewis's vision?
Sunday: 2:30-3:00 p.m. Reading/Signing
Joshua Palmatier
The snake panel and competition sounds fun. And I guess I'd better go see the Naria movie. I intended to, but my schedule is busy, had to wash my hair, got a headache . . . just never got around to it. But now it's top of my list! I think the language panel could be interesting, depending on who's moderating it and where they take it.
