Star Trek anyone?

So today, my geekdom and my hobby of going to flea markets collided in a way I never expected.

You see, typically every Sunday morning (when not at a con or whatever) me and my partner my partner and I go to the local flea market, and sometimes after that an auction or antique show. Today we went to the flea market and bought standard things like flowers and vegetables for the roof garden (today's veggies were acorn squash, more cucumbers, and . . . an eggplant). We did the usual run-through of the outdoor stalls and I was just wandering past a table that looked like it had nothing of interest when my eye caught this:

That's right. Barbi Barbie and Ken. Dressed up as Star Trek characters. With tricorders and communicators and even a phaser.

I. Almost. Died.

Laughing at first, but then I became strangely attracted to the dolls. They began to call to me. I assumed that the price would be horrendous, but it wasn't. I found myself reaching for my wallet. . . .

And now I have Star Trek Barbi Barbie and Ken dolls. I'm not sure why. I don't collect Star Trek memorabilia (just the books) and certainly don't collect Barbi Barbie dolls. I collect crackle glass. And books.

I'm not sure how collectible the item is and will likely go searching on Ebay to see if they've shown up there. Not that I'm thinking of selling it or anything (unless it's really rare or worth a ton more than I paid for it). The box got a little crushed on the bottom (not sure if you can see that in the pic) but it's obvious the dolls have not been removed from the box or played with in any way. Any idea on its worth from all of you Star Trek Barbi Barbie geeks out there?

ETA: Edited to satisfy [livejournal.com profile] barbarienne, the Grammar Nazi. I plead "I've written too many other words on an actual book to care about the grammar in my LJ entry."

I have Morticia/Barbie and Gomez/Ken dolls :)

Just a couple words on doll collecting... and I know you aren't going to go all crazy with this, but... having the dolls in their original box, obviously never played with does add something to their value, HOWEVER - what can take away from the value is if the bands that hold the dolls in place in the box start to discolor the dolls skin. This can even happen through the clothing. I always remove the doll from the box, remove the bands and return it back to the box if I'm going to store them.

Congrats on your bargain purchase! Woowoo!

Now, if you happen to see the 18 inch tall Peter Criss from KISS doll in good condition......

Good to know about the wiring.

And I'll keep my eye out for Peter Criss.
