Men Who Cook!!! Today!!!

OK, so I spent, like, 9+ hours yesterday cooking for the Men Who Cook event tonight, so SOMEONE in the area had better show up! *grin* If you haven't heard of it, the local Mental Health Association (MHAST) holds this event every year, asking local businessmen and "celebrities" to cook a sample-size snack for up to 300 people. The event raises money for the organization by charging for entry and with things like silent auctions and raffles and such at the event. The tickets are $35 before 5:30pm today, and then $45 at the door. There are supposed to be around 30 "guest" cooks at the event. It's also a chance for the local businessmen and "celebrities" to get some exposure in the community. I'll be there schilling my books, for example.

And this year I used the German release of "Die Assassine" as my excuse to cook something German-ish. So I've got Reinischer Sauerbraten on potato latkes with spicy gingerbread sauce to top it off. Hopefully I can get the latkes to get crunchy, since I cooked those yesterday. I've got a little oven to toast them in. They're what took so long to cook actually. I mean, the meat had to marinade for 3+ days and then roast for a few hours, but that doesn't require constant vigil like the latkes. And the gingerbread sauce is pretty easy.

So I'm blaming my exhaustion on the latkes.

Anyway, if you're in the Binghamton area tonight and want to come out and sample some of the local cuisine, as cooked by random men, stop on by! Details are at the link above. I'll be there with latkes on!

Good luck. I don't suppose you're going to post the recipe later?

Dang! I wish I could be there - you're making me hungry! Your recipe sounds wonderful.

HAVE to point out: "schilling my books" - er, would that be Schilling ginger you're using? *ahem* *sorry*

I look forward to your report of this event - I bet it's TONS of fun.

What a wonderful idea.

What about that interview you mentioned on Facebook - is it online anywhere yet?

I can definitely post the recipe. But later, yes. Later would be better. *runs to find all necessary items for presentation table*

It should certainly be lots of fun. And stressful. But a fun stressful. *grin*

I thought it was a good idea last year and, obviously, this year as well. I hope it helps raise a ton of money for the organization.

Ah, yes. I searched and found it is up already. Here's the link. I'll post something about it on Facebook and here after the event tonight.

You came across very well. I sense you may well have been biting your tongue during some portions of the program.

Frau Hau, who listened to the last few minutes, says:"Who would have every believed that a Fantasy novel might have romantic elements?"

Mmmm....Wish I could come!

I second the recipe request. The gingerbread sauce sounds nummy. :)

I was locked in a room (er class) talking about the differences between EEO and Affirmative Action last night. I am sure Men who Cook was much more life-Affirming. I hope you had fun!
