B&N Signing

So the B&N signing went great! I saw a ton of people I haven't seen or talked to in a long time. In fact, it was practically a gathering of the old Waldenbooks staff. We were only missing Stacey. And I've got a signing at the store she's managing next week, so I'll see her then. But the best part was that there weren't just friends there. I'd say half the people . . . were people I didn't know!! Actual readers of fantasy who showed up to take a chance on a new fantasy author!! One said that they were interested in the book because it had a female protagonist and they were tired of the male-centric fantasy novels out there. Another asked some . . . interesting questions during the Q&A section. I did my usual reading. I don't feel I "caught" the audience as well as I did at the release party reading though. There I felt a connection; at B&N I didn't get that feeling. However I think I sold 20-30 books at the signing, and as I think [livejournal.com profile] pbray mentioned in her LJ, the most books any author had sold recently at B&N at one of these events was 5 or something. So I'm taking that to mean the signing was a success.

Plus they gave me chocolate as a thank you. Also a great mug and pen, but the chocolate will forever stand out. Godiva. Mmmmmmmm.

Two signings coming up this week. One in Lock Haven, PA at D Dashem Books downtown, Tuesday, Jan 24th, from 3-5pm. The other is at the on-campus bookstore at Binghamton University in Binghamton, NY, Friday, Jan 27th, from 1-4pm. Stop by if you get the chance.

In other writing news: I did a phone interview with someone at the Centre Daily Times, the local paper in State College, PA. They said the article should appear on Jan 27th, this coming Friday. Can't wait to read that. I've been warned that I will be completely misquoted and that I won't recognize the person that the newsman actually interviewed. Which is why I can't wait to read it. To see exactly how bad it is.

And in non-writing news: Yesterday I played Alhambra with [livejournal.com profile] pbray and [livejournal.com profile] jennifer_dunne again. I lost. Horribly. But I claim we can't tell because there was a woodchuck incident. This incident involved [livejournal.com profile] pbray, the warping of time and distance--which allowed [livejournal.com profile] pbray to knock over my bottle of woodchuck, which was as far from her as possible--and the total destruction of the score board. So of course that means I must have won. What's more amazing is that all of this happened before any of us had had enough woodchuck to be remotely affected by it.

It has been said that it's a relief there's no webcam at any of our little gaming sessions. The reading public would be astounded. Perhaps horrified. Definitely entertained. Maybe a little sick to their stomachs.
