First of all, thanks to everyone for the support on the tax issue post. I will contemplate getting an accountant. But overall, after a night of rest, the hit to my bank account will hurt but its not like I won't recover. The penalty part of it wasn't that bad actually. And I think TurboTax has a thing that helps with the quarterly estimates stuff.

In other news, I got my coupon from Borders for 25% off so I wandered off to the bookstore after teaching today to see what was on the shelf and what I might use it on. And lo! There on the shelf was the new George R.R. Martin book, A Dance With Dragons! I mean, I'd heard that it was coming out soon, but it kept getting pushed back and back, so I wasn't expecting it. I mean, I'd basically stopped looking for it. But the cover rocks (I don't know why green covers are abhorred so much in the industry; there's a theory that a green cover will kill the sales of the book) and I'm already 100 pages into it. Great stuff, even if it was long in coming.

And in addition, we learn that the Brandon Sanderson completion of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series will not be released as one book, but three, making the series 14 books long overall. Not a surprise there really either. I only made it to book 8 before I decided to stop and reread the entire series when it was completely finished, but even at book 8 I was having trouble visualizing Robert Jordan being able to tie the story up in only 4 books.

In any case, a small update, since today has been rather long. Now back to GRRM!!!

April Fools, of course, on the GRRM book. Everything else in the post is real. *grin*

I did the same thing with the Robert Jordan books. I couldn't keep track of the characters and many, many plotlines while waiting for the new books to come out, so I decided to wait until they were all out and read them in order. But I quit so many years ago, I'm not sure I care anymore. I think I was an undergraduate then, and now I'm in my 30s. I feel kind of sad about that, but by the time all those books are out, I will probably be retired.

Yeah, its so not nice to pick on us GRRM fans like that. Because the minute I read that first sentence, I thought "I know this is an April Fools Day joke, but I will still have to kill him, seriously."

Maybe you don't care, but I know the answer to this one: Once upon a time, the dye in green ink didn't bind to paper all that well. Therefore, if you printed a book with a mostly-green cover, the ink would rub off on the reader's hands and make them hate you and the book.

This is no longer a problem, but Marketing has weirdly-short memory for useful information.
