I have finally gotten copies of the anthology Beauty Has Her Way, edited by Jennifer Brozek, which contains my short story Tears of Blood. This short is set in Amenkor and features a Mistress of the Skewed Throne at a time prior to Varis taking over in the "Throne of Amenkor" series. Set during the time of some rather vicious plagues, it tells of how the current Mistress deals with the plague . . . and with the training of the Servant who may next take over the Throne.

I thought I'd use this opportunity to offer up my usual slew of book deals, direct from the author, signed and personalized if you'd like. Here's what's available and the prices! Shipping is free in the continental US. If you live outside that area, contact me and I can get you a shipping price to see if you're interested.

OK, I figured I should update some of the stuff going on around the webs regarding me and my books and my friends.

First up is a charity drive being sponsored by fellow DAW author Patrick Rothfuss for Heifer International. There are going to be tons of copies of signed books and books in general up for grabs in this thing, including a set of signed hardcover copies of the Throne of Amenkor books. There are additional signed books on this list and according to the main page, there will be more books on the list in the future, so keep watch! I'll try to update you again in the future. (Ben Tate has donated a book as well, but I haven't seen them up on a list yet.)

Next, here's a guest blog by Patricia Bray ([livejournal.com profile] pbray), fellow co-editor of the After Hours: Tales from the Ur-Bar anthology coming out March 2011 (preorder now!), about some of the things she and I learned about the publishing world from the editor's side of the desk. Some useful advice in here regarding how to handle yourself when dealing with an editor (or agent, even though it's about editing) or fellow authors you might be working with on a project.

Still no news on the anthology Beauty Had Her Way, which contains my Amenkor short story "Tears of Blood." I've been told it is scheduled for a December release, but I've been checking the website and I haven't seen it up for sale yet. The cover isn't up yet. I'll keep everyone posted. It's being released by Dark Quest books.

And since we're moving into the holiday gift-giving season, I figured I'd post about how to get signed copies of my book (and Ben's) from me personally again. Here are the deals!

I've been busy with finishing off my revision of LEAVES OF FLAME (sequel to WELL OF SORROWS), starting work back up on another novel, and messing with a project that can't be announced yet because contracts haven't been signed (announcement coming shortly). But a few things have popped up on the web in the interim, so I figured I'd point you all towards them.

First, I did a podcast with Gail Z. Martin for Ghost in the Machine, which you can find here. It's an informal chat where I talk about the competition between urban fantasy and epic fantasy. I'm definitely an epic fantasy writer and I've been finding it harder and harder to find epic fantasy on the bookshelf. For some reason I felt out of breath the entire interview and I don't know if it shows in the podcast or not.

My monthly post over at the APEX blog has also appeared. This is a short one about the real reason why I write: the euphoric feeling I get when I finish something and I know it's good. Maybe not perfect, but good. There are other reasons to write, but I wouldn't keep doing it if I didn't have this reaction at the end.

Also, I've just gotten a replenishment shipment of copies of the anthology Close Encounters of the Urban Kind, which contains my short horror story "Mastihooba," from APEX. I figured this was a good time to put up the book selling offers that I have at the moment. Check those out at the end of the post.

Another anthology called Beauty Has Her Way will be released shortly (so I'm told) as well. This one will contain my short story "Tears of Blood", which is a Throne of Amenkor story (but doesn't feature Varis). Any fans of the Amenkor books should let me know if they want a signed copy of this short so I can get a rough idea of how many I should preorder. I believe it will be available on Amazon.com and other places online, but I'll have some copies for sale here as well when they become available.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the reading/signing last night at Africa House! It was a blast reading from Well of Sorrows (I read a scene from Chapter 4 . . . the hanging) and answering questions afterwards. And a double thank you to those of you who purchased books. I appreciate that. In particular, I'd like to thank Stacey Hopko for bringing books from the Binghamton University bookstore to sell at the event, even though she was exhausted from the first few weeks of the semester.

I haven't posted about my book deals in a while, so here they are!

So, the first ever short story written by Joshua Palmatier has finally been published in the anthology Close Encounters of the Urban Kind. The story is called Mastihooba and is based (like all of the stories in the anthology) on a local urban myth. Mine is about a man named Masty Huba who is the equivalent of a boogeyman. The thing about this anthology is that all of the urban myths have some kind of alien twist to them. So Mastihooba is more than just a boogeyman. Bwahahahaha!

In any case, the anthology is NOW AVAILABLE! So head on over here and order it directly from the publisher, Apex, or you can get it from Amazon.com if you'd like. I still haven't gotten a copy of this yet, although I'm expecting it any day now since I preordered some. I'll be interested to see what everyone else came up with for their own stories.

And since I'm pushing my books, I may as well push the Throne of Amenkor series as well. I have copies on hand here and getting them into someone else's hands would be a plus. So, here are the deals:

Hardcovers: Individually, the books are $15 each (including shipping in the US). If you'd like the entire series in hardcover, then they're at the discounted rate of $30 (including shipping in the US). I can sign and personalize them however you'd like.

Paperbacks: Individually, the books are $8 each (including shipping in the US). If you'd like the entire series in paperback, then they're at the discounted rate of $20 (including shipping in the US). I can sign and personalize them however you'd like.

Email me at jpalmatier@sff.net if you're interested in the Throne of Amenkor books and we can discuss payment and signatures. I do have Paypal, so that's an option as well. If you're from outside the US, I can find out how much the shipping would be to see if you're still interested.

But in the meantime, watch out for Close Encounters of the Urban Kind!

This past week the German translation of The Cracked Throne, titled "Die Regentin," was released in Germany . . . and I got my ordered copies in the mail the other day. *grin*

I have a few extra copies of both "Die Assassine" (the German translation of The Skewed Throne) and "Die Regentin," so I figured I'd offer them up if anyone here in the US is interested in having a copy. They're basically trade paperbacks and I'll have to charge $25 each (this includes shipping to an address in the US). If you're interested, email me at jpalmatier@sff.net and we can deal with arranging payment and shipping address and all that. Quantities are limited!

And since I'm talking books for sale, I may as well plug the US versions of the books as well. I have lots of extra copies hanging around the house, so I'll offer up the same deals as I had for the Holiday Sale:

Deal #1: All three hardcovers (The Skewed Throne, The Cracked Throne, and The Vacant Throne) for $30.

Deal #2: All three paperbacks (The Skewed Throne, The Cracked Throne, and The Vacant Throne) for $20.

If you need an individual book, then the hardcovers are $15 each, and the paperbacks are $8 each.

All of these offers include shipping and are for shipment to addresses in the US. Please contact me at jpalmatier@sff.net if you're interested and we can arrange payment and such. If you need a price quote for overseas, please get in touch and I can get back to you. And, of course, all of these offers are for signed copies. *grin*
